Dd had mentioned awhile back that she would like a short red dress for midwinter.

In my experience, the strapless dresses actually show less cleavage than the v-neck or halter dresses. My DD had to get a dress for a semi-formal when she graduated from 8th grade. Her school didn't allow strapless dresses, so she had to wear a shawl with hers. But her dress was so much more modest than the non-strapless dresses some of the others wore.

We have had such a hard time finding dresses for teens. It seems like all of the clothes in the store are either super casual or prom dresses. Nothing in-between.

This discussion reminds me . . .

When my DD, now 20, was a high school senior, I made bags for her friends. It was fun and the bags were a very easy pattern. Then my DD called me when I was on a out-of-town work trip and announced that another friend didn't really want a bag but could I PLEASE PLEASE do a homecoming dress (dance in 2 weeks)! Oh my!!! I am by no means an expert and at the time thought I'd lost my mind but it was great fun in the end. The dress required 13 yards of fabric and soon the entire house was covered in bits of fabric, even the dog had tulle hanging off of him. The friends came over for the fittings, the girl looked gorgeous (she is 6 feet tall and anything would look good), NO CLEAVAGE issues that I or her Mom had to contend with and I hope no one looked too closely at the sewing! This very sweet girl then came over with a framed photo of her in the dress and a candle she had made for me. (Total cost - $35 because my DD at the time worked at a fabric store - and many gray hairs.)

I also made a dress another time for my DD for a recital. It was strapless but not really revealing. After it was finished, DD said she felt too bare and asked if I could make straps. OK, take dress apart and add straps. Then, the day of the recital, she buys a sweater that basically covers up the entire bodice of the dress! Next time I'm using a glue gun to make adjustments!!:) And now at 20, she does wear clothes that I think are a little revealing . . .
