ACT's??

I just got a pamplet for DS16 for an ACT study class at the UW an hour away. When do they usually take this test, he's only beginning his junior year? Are the classes worth the money? Recommended or not recommended?
Thanks, Calie

My daughter Brooklyn who is a sophomore has not taken the ACTs yet. My oldest only took the SATs. My other son took the ACTs twice. Once in the end of his junior year. He did well and got a 32. I have heard positive things about the ACT/SAT classes. Kapplan and Princeton Review are very good.

Hi Calie,
I was quite surprised at the number of students who take prep classes for the ACT. It seemed to be 'the norm'. Of course, Im sure the one you stumbled upon is NOT the only option. As others have mentionned, the options are endless. This is big business!!!
There are also software programs but your kid has to be motivated to follow through or you need to be motivated to make them. It is cheaper though
Neither of my boys took them and scored well overall but their math sucked! If I could do it over, I would have had them do a math focused prep(yep, they have those too)
Not sure what I will do with #3. He is LD and I dont anticipate college but who knows? And, yes, we are in IL so he will HAVE to take the ACT. Hes in 9th though, so I have time to decide.
