Age for Pubic Shaving

Help!! My DD16 walked in on me while I was shaving myself "down there" and became very curious, asking why I do it (I fibbed a little - feels more comfortable, looks nicer) and wanted to watch how it's done so she could try it, too. She tells me she is sure other girls her age shave. I don't have a clue. Do they? Is it a bad idea for a girl that age? For me, it is quite a sensual experience to groom "down there," but maybe that's just me. I know there have been discussions about minimum age to start shaving legs, and I guess I always assumed that young girls merely do a little bikini line trimming with scissors for bathing suit season. BTW, she has been sexually active for several months and I can't be sure her BF is not the reason for her interest in this.

From what my dds (16 and 18) tell me, a lot of girls shave thier pubic area - A LOT. I was kind of taken aback at first, but then I figured it had more to do with the whole bathing suit issue - my 16dd told me she's been shaving since before she was sexually active because she hates the hair down there! 18dd didn't really elaborate - she's much more private.
Could it be that seeing you do it simply piqued her interest?
Like Hearts, I too realized this summer when she was wearing her swimsuit that my dd14 has been shaving down there and I don't really know for how long. There isn't really much point in "allowing it" , appropriate ages or not as she is going to do it if she wants to and how will you even know?
Just Chiming in to agree with the above posters. Both of my daughters (ages 15
>>>it made me think they were trying to look like little girls to appeal to some peverted fetish that some guys might have.>>>
Pam, I agree, that's what I think about this and it totally grosses me out. The media and advertising industry has sexualized everything, right down to little girls and to me, that's the predominant reason our young women, namely our teens, think this is the 'normal' thing to do.
I've done it a couple of time - for variety - and it's really nothing to rave about. In fact, it's extremely uncomfortable when the hair is growing back in.
I know, TMI. lol - Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I totally get what you mean. Creepy.

After reading this thread, I had to wonder about that! I think most women attend to their swimsuit area during the summer and even that little bit is uncomfortable for me! I can't imagine a full-blown shave!
I had to take DD shopping for a swimsuit this past weekend and even here is San Diego, it's slim pickin's. We found one very cute bikini in the right sizes but DD, being very modest, felt it was cut too low in front and didn't want to worry about anything showing. I don't think it ever occurred to her to shave there in front, though she does shave the area on her thighs.
You and me both.
I find it rather strange that anyone would do that. What is the matter with hair? It's not something to be ashamed about. And boy, it must get itchy when it starts to grow in!
But then women have always done all sorts of strange things to their bodies for the sake of beauty.
