Am I out of my mind?

Here it is only 2 weeks until Christmas, I don't have my shopping done, haven't wrapped a thing, the house isn't decorated, we still have to have the carpet cleaned, we don't have a tree yet, I still want to bake a couple batches of cookies and I just sent out invitations to 18 families to join me to paint ornaments at the ceramics shop on Friday evening. Am I out of my mind? .......... Well, worse than usual that is! I have wanted to invite a group to paint for a while and this was the only time I could see that I could do it, so I took the plunge and arranged to have a get together.

Actually it won't be a ton of work for me, I just have to go to the shop and paint on Friday evening and people will come and join me. I did say I would have a little snack there and people could bring something if they wanted to. So some cookies and maybe chocolate will do.

Everyone will be choosing and paying for their own pieces from ornaments to bowls or platters, they can paint whatever they want in whatever price range they want to pay. There are drinks there so I don't need to worry about that either, just need to check with Mark, the owner, and be sure he is stocked up on drinks.

I think we will have a lot of fun, hopefully we will have a good sized group. If everyone comes there will be almost 50 people there. I highly doubt that though. And it is like an open house thing, ya know, come any time between 5:00 and 11:00. I think it will be a lot of fun. I invited all my family and friends.

Too bad none of you live in my area, y'all could come too.

It sounds like fun, actually! Well, not the shopping, cleaning, decorating, wrapping part of it...but the painting with friends is a great idea.

That sounds like fun! Do you work at the ceramics shop? Hang out there? I was behind my usual schedule this year also, regarding all things Christmas. To get myself in the mood I started playing my Christmas CD's, and simmering a holiday cauldron on the stove...water, cinnamon (sticks too), cloves, nutmeg, allspice, whatever you can find. Orange peel. Orange extract. Mmmm....just make sure the water doesn't cook off and you end up with a burnt mess!

No, you aren't crazy. There's something "off" this year for me too. I've barely started my shopping, although I did manage to decorate my house somehow. I haven't baked a thing, haven't even thought about sending cards (I've received only 1 so far, and that was from a business I shop at)....and I'm not doing any entertaining! I think your painting idea sounds like lots of fun and relatively low stress. Getting together like that is what the holidays should be about.

I'm about to do some Christmas shopping today for my "lovely" DD who is currently giving me the silent treatment because I will not buy her used Abercrombie clothes on eBay.....call me "Mommie Dearest"! Tis the season.

At first I did think you were out of your mind, until I read the part about it not being at your house. It sounds like great fun. If I were in your area I would love to go (except for a miserable 9 year old who isn't eating six days after getting his tonsils out).

Don't feel bad about not decorating or getting all your shopping done yet. Usually I am completely prepared but this year has been different. I have absolutely nothing done yet. DS is going to Grandma's this afternoon so I can start doing a few things (of course I have a high school board mtg. during that time, but honestly, I can't wait to be with some adults at this point after being home a full week).

Have a great time Friday night.

Well no, Kristie, I don't think you are out of your mind at all!

The painting party sounds like fun.

Just checked out your website. So Dave thinks traveling all over as a photographer is better than being an accountant, huh? Fancy that! He's got some very nice prints. I esp. like Italy, the seascapes and walkways. I need something big for above our fireplace, but I imagine the quality decreases if they are enlarged to 4 feet. Too bad we missed the Chantilly show--that's only 30 minutes away.

I haven't begun Chrismas prep either, but plan to shop a little tomorrow, and decorate later in the week. Cookies will have to wait until next week--if I make them too soon they all disappear before Christmas. I always have to hide a few dozen.

Kristie, I only just put up my tree and decorated my house yesterday!! And I did bake one cookie and everyone ate them, so I have to do all my baking this coming weekend and deep freeze them till Christmas! I have only bought about 7 gifts, so I have a lot more to go!! And I haven't gotten any stocking stuffers. I have an annual shopping bonanza every year with my girlfriend but we've both been so busy that we're not going until the 20th!! OMG - that is soooo late for me!

The painting activity you have planned sounds like a wonderful way to kick start the season and get you in the mood! I loved doing stuff like that with my girls when they were little. We still do crafts and they help decorate and paint the 8 million cookies I make, so we still do that stuff. I love it mostly because we're all together and chatting away and having fun. Enjoy!
