DD and I sat down tonight and had a decent talk regarding this ADD stuff and her grades.

I don't think you should tell the teachers about the cheating but I do think you should talk to them about her struggles.

I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday because I thought about you all day. Most doctors now days prescribe Concerta as their first line of ADHD/ADD meds because it seems to be the one most tolerated. Although most ADHD meds are stimulants, there are several types that act in different ways. Adderral is one of the strongest and a lot people don't need the extra something that it contains. It can cause the most side effects, esp. anger issues. I've heard it again and again. (Although it can be the absolute best med for some.)

From what I've seen personally, in one of my children and other friends, your DD will not be able to do this on her own. I have a friend whose child turns 18 next month and really couldn't even get through homeschooling. She has other health issues, and won't give meds a try. She's now trying to get her GED, but I really can't see that happening without additional help. She's a really smart child but can't use the abilities she has.

I would try to get her seen ASAP and at least try something new during winter break. All of them have initial side effects, but if it's the right med they go away within several months. After you find the right med and right dose, it can be LIFE CHANGING. My DS has the same wonderful personality on Concerta, but now has the ability to focus and thrive.

Feel free to ask any questions. I'd love to help you get through this.

It sounds like DD has used cheering as the thing she's GOOD at, to get her good strokes from when she struggles in school - and taking that away isn't going to help any in the long run IMO.

How to turn this around into something positive?

I agree with you Rose that it would not help to take cheering away.
