Another Teenage Role Model In Trouble

I think this past year has been *the* year for celebrities/musicians/actors who are admired by teenagers not exactly living up to their squeaky clean images.

People like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears -- they've been somewhat spiralling out of control with outrageous behaviour and substance abuse for some time.

I think that the young stars who make it to a normal adulthood are the ones where the parents exert some control over the child and still treat them like children.

Good points....

Fortunately, I have no idea what it would be like to try to discipline a 4 and a half foot tall, 7 figure income meal ticket. Fairly difficult I'm sure.

I mostly just think it's sad that people in Hollywood or who know how to toss a ball really far are the *key* role models presented to our children to begin with.

When I was growing up it was people who made a difference in lives across the nation and

That's a very interesting twist and I do agree, it is sad that these are the role models for kids today. I take these stories as they come up, talk about them with my kids (whatever is appropriate for each) and use it as a starting point for discussions. But...as a society we do seemed to be "hooked" on inappropriate role models, the type that inherently can't live up to our expectations; rather than the wonderful people who just by being who they are, add to society and show respect for themselves and others on a daily basis.

I think the whole idea of a famous person being a role model is over rated. Kids are more influenced and affected by those closer to them...not to say a celebrity

This whole thing made me think back to when I was a teenager...who did I look up to back then?

Who were your role models?

Honestly?

"Take someone like Angelina Jolie - she's in Hollywood but she's also making a difference for so many and showing others how to as well."

True, I admire Angeline Jolie's social activism.

Does anyone think that it's time for Nick/Disney to show some responsibility for these kids that they are promoting?
