Since my mom had been in the hospital for 17 days and is recently out, we'd hoped to get to Chicago to visit them, but dh was at a fever of 101 last night and I didn't think it'd be wise to bring anything with us like that! They asked if we could put in their window unit a/c, etc.

So that'll give ds13 time to study for his algebra final (next Thurs; same day as 8th grade ceremony; next day is 6 Flags - very cool), dh to recuperate, and for us to get ds to his baseball practice and game. Monday we have a pool party invite - hope it's nice!

Cross your fingers for ds on the algebra test - he's the one with testing issues (gets the material, spends loads of time studying, but somehow just can't keep it together for tests). Thankfully his teacher knows he 'gets it', but this is a grade that can keep him out of his desired 'path' next year (you can't get any C's in algebra to go on to geometry, and you have to be in geometry to be in biology).

Sue, hoping to go to Chicago next weekend instead, and in the mean time, that it stays cool up there!

Happy Anniversary Pam! I hope you and DH have a nice day together.

No real plans for the long weekend (darn!) -- just hope to take in a viewing of that oh-so controversial film, the Da Vinci Code. I just picked up younger DS an hour or so ago from his week at 6th grade camp. He had a great time but is very tired and very happy to be home -- I even got an enormous hug in full view of the entire 6th grade class :). I treated him to an extra large coke and cheeseburger for lunch which he thoroughly enjoyed it after a week of camp food! He doesn't get out of school until June 16.

DD is winding out her school year; yearbooks were being distibuted today. She has one big project left to do for her World Cultures class which I think is just a hoot! She has to create her own totalitarian country and government. She has been called 'pooh bear', 'princess pooh' or just 'pooh' just about all her life, so her 'country' is the "Hundred Acre 'World'", with Winnie the Pooh as its benevolent dictator. Heffalumps will be the police force, headed up by Commander Piglet, I believe. I think it will a fun project for her to do. Her last week of school is the week of June 5, all half days that week for finals and then she's a sophmore -- woo hoo! She's had a very good year!

Julie -- who wishes she had grand plans for the weekend

We don't really have plans - I hate fighting holiday traffic, so we generally stay home on teh "big" weekends. We are going to a Bat Mitzvah on Sunday which is essentially all day.

Leah has three more weeks of school - lots of work these days, and gearing up for finals. Also NY has "Regents" exams, and since her class has finished the Biology curriculum, they can take the bio regents. It's about a week after the end of classes. DS7 has until 6/28 til school is over.

Our big news is we just booked a trip to Paris for the middle of the summer!!! We promised DD we'd go to France if she got good grades in French. After DH splitting hairs on whether a B+ is a "good grade" (it IS!), we agreed that this is the year. So...... we're off! It's a huge expense, but I know it'sll be a trip none of us will ever forget.

Oh boy, Sue! You sure know how to make a gal jealous, don't you? Paris? I've actually been twice, but it's such a wonderful city, I'd go again in a heartbeat. Have you been before? How long will you stay? Do any of you speak French? Where are you staying?

Oh anyway, post an update with all the details so I can go vicariously with you!

DH has mentioned something for the kids for their good grades this year. Hhhmmm ... maybe I should mention Paris?

Julie

P.S.: And a B+ is a VERY good grade! Congrats to your DD -- I know she's worked hard this year! Mine is taking French this year also ... and next year too.

We're going end of July/beginning of August - right after DD gets back from her two week summer/college. I think it's 9 days (I lost count with the flights gaining or losing a day). I've been to France twice - once in HS and once in Grad school. I do speak French, but it's been a looooong time LOL. When we went to Quebec two years ago, I was able to hold my own in very basic conversations.

We're staying in Montmartre - sort of off the beaten path, but I found the Hotel on Expedia and it has a quad room (very unusual in Paris) so we don't have to get two rooms (or squeeze a cot or two into a tiny room). It also has a Continental breakfast, which is one less expense for DH to worry about!

We planned for a little over a week, to give us enough time to do a little of everything. With my DS7 being so much younger, it means really thinking about what will motivate him. On our Canadian trips were much happier when DH and I split the kids LOL and took turns doing little kid things and big/teen kid things.

My DD is stunned that we actually did this. She was convinced we would just talk and talk for years, and never do it. My DH is not the best planner, so I just took the reins, and got it all laid out on Expedia and showed it to him.

I'll keep you posted. Now that we've done it, I'm getting psyched. Off to the US Passport website......

How exciting! Wish I were going ...

When we went last, DD was in 7th grade and younger DS in 4th, so that made him 9, I think. I was worried about him being bored and whiny, but he LOVED it. At the museums, we rented the headphones with English narration for him and he was quite happy to wander around with them on and look at the art and exhibits. I was thrilled he did so well, and seemed to enjoy it so much, so maybe your DS will have the same experience. I did want to cover his eyes in the metro stations, though. Some of the 'art' posted there was practically pornographic!

Your DD is going to love it and how fun for her to get to practice her French! My DD would like to go on an exchange program in France one day, and I think it's a grand idea. Maybe between jr and sr year when she's 16.

We were able to find a quad room at a Best Western near the Opera House. It was very tiny, in a 3rd or 4th floor attic room with tiny beds and sloping ceilings. DD and DS both banged their heads nearly every morning getting out of bed. DH's and my feet hung over the end of the beds and the shower leaked and soaked just about the entire room when we used it but we were all together in one room and it was very charming and quaint.

You probably already know about this, but in case you don't ... we were able to buy a multi-museum pass (I think we bought it at the tourist office once we got there) for each of us that got us into all the major museums and it saved quite a bit of $$ over purchasing tickets at each location. Plus, it was a big time saver too, we just waltzed right in everywhere.

Oh ... and did you know the Louvre has a food court now? I have one majorly picky eater and we ate at the Louvre food court on more than one occassion because it had something everyone liked, and with the museum passes we could go in just to eat! Very convenient!

Well after all this travel talk, I am seriously ready for a grand vacation! Somehow, I dont think our week at a Georgia lake with DH's family is going to quite cure me of this, but I guess it's gonna have to ... sigh ...
