SD and BM moved out of district and SD doesn't want to change school halfway through the year so they are doing online schooling for her. I am wondering just how well this will work for SD. SD has a very limited attention span and I have hardly ever see her do homework. When she does bring it over, it's done sitting in front of the tv and not more than a few things get written down before she just stops and watches tv. I do not tell her to turn off the tv and concentrate because that is not my job. Let her figure it out for herself.

My only personal experience with online classes are the college classes my son took.

My DD (who is normally a very organized and conscientious student) has taken 3 or 4 online classes since she started college the summer of 09, and it takes every ounce of discipline that she has to stay on track and do well in them.

How far out of district did they move? My youngest homeschooled until Middle School (6th grade here) and rode the city bus to and from an out of district school for 6,7,8 grades. Transportation for evening events was a hassle sometimes but we did it. If she's going for 1st period orchestra, why isn't she staying for the school day?

She does not sound like a student that will take online classes seriously- but ya know, SOME students really thrive when it's all up to them. I'm hoping she'll really suprise you.

OOPS- I forgot...all of the online schools I looked into have a password area for parents to check up on assignments and grades and teacher/parent communication and concerns- so she CAN'T say she did the work, you can check!
