Article about teen driving

A new "Connect With Kids" arrived in my e-mail today, so I thought I would share a link to an article on driving (for what it's worth).

A good and timely article.
My DD is 16 today and took her drivers test and failed.
She is not ready for a license.
After a couple months of additional practice, maybe.
Good information.

Thanks for providing the link, Amelia. The article is very informative. I especially like the point about not allowing your teens to get a license just because it might be convenient for us parents. A women just told me yesterday that she just 'couldn't wait' for her DD to get her license because she was tired of being her chauffeur (sp?).
Remember my post about the beach teen driver? The very same! Yikes. What a scary thought.
She is currently sulking in her room.
We're having a bunch of kids over for a party this evening.
Her best friend was supposed to pick her up this AM for breakfast before the big drivers test. She never showed or called. Don't know if she forgot or if something happened.
She failed her drivers test. (I said beforehand it was not a good idea to do this on her birthday)
DD has been argumentative and uncooperative all day.
She was supposed to accompany DW to get groceries for the party. She refused.
So....I'm supposed to grill burgers and brats and provide a big feast. There is no food in the house for these kids. DW was going to run to the store by herself and do all this. I persuaded her not to. We'll let DD handle this on her own.
This is not turning out to be the sweet 16 party she probably was expecting.
Ain't it fun?
D
Oh wow, daddio. This doesn't sound fun at all! It's nearly 5:00 California time and I'm guessing it's about time for party guests to start arriving at your house. I'm sure you're DD will come around in time to make a mad dash with your DW to the supermarket to get stocked up on provisions.
I hope the evening improves as it progresses. Will Weenie Boy be in attendance tonight? Post an update tomorrow!
Julie
P.S. Don't tell anybody but your DD this, it should make her feel better: I flunked my driving test three times before I finally passed. Up until I was nearly 18, I always had various boyfriends to drive me around, so didn't actually NEED a license of my own. When the time eventually came that I found I had to drive myself around, I didn't have near the experience behind the wheel that I needed to pass the test.
Hang in there!
It's about 10:30 pm here..
DD never stopped crabbing until her friends arrived.
Earlier, the kids were piling through the door carrying bags of chips and other snacks.
It turns out DD called them to bring something to eat.
Oh my, how classy....
They now probably think Daddio is too lazy and cheap to provide for a party.. (shrug.)
They're still here yaaking away. I need to shoo them out in about a half hour.
Weenie boy is at least bright enough to not show his face around here. DD would take it off, assuming she got to him before I did. DD finally realized he's a player and an ass. Not before learning some painful lessons.
psst...This is for Julie only..All others skip to the next thread... :-)
Your note reminded me of my own drivers test. This was back in the days State Troopers did the road test evaluation. I got myself a real boot camp Jarhead. Kept sighing heavily and yelling at my every move. He got me so rattled I rolled through a stop sign. Instant fail. Then he gave me a very long, stern lecture that he was "keeping society safe" by keeping me off the road and it was his duty to make sure "kids like me" don't get behind the wheel. lol... I DID pass the second time... by 3 points. :-)
Thanks for the note. I'm *trying* to hang in there...

Well, isn't your DD very resourceful?! Daddio, the image of a bunch of teenagers showing up with bags of groceries actually made me chuckle. I can just imagine that scene ...
With or without your bbq-ing skills, it sounds like your DD had a happy sweet 16 after all and she's probably in a much better frame of mind today? I hope you are too!
Glad to see you around a bit more.
