'Block' Scheduling

My kids high school does block scheduling. It is a pain. I know they are trying to get ready for college, the only difference is in college, when you take a m-w-f class it is m-w-f for the whole semester, kwim? Here they have A-B days. This Monday started with a B day, next Monday (if it weren't a holiday) would be an A day. Does your school do this? Please tell me I'm not alone!

We have block scheduling and the classes are a year long. In the state where we used to live they did 4x4 scheduling, where students take four classes each quarter. Each year-long class only meets for one semester. I remember going to each class everyday of the week-my how times have changed.

I know me too! If I had English 3rd period on Monday, I had English 3rd period everyday. I think I would be totally confused!

My kids had block scheduling mainly because for the electives they were on an every other day schedule--so it was a 6-day schedule rather than 5 days. Of course the main classes were every day. But it was like Blocks A-G and the times rotated every day. I think it was very hard to keep track of but I guess the kids got used to it. Now it seems like for my DS in 9th grade, the times will be the same every day, so he will have the same classes in the same order every day & only the electives will change or alternate. I think that's much better.

Wow, that seems even more confusing.

DS's hs had white and blue days, so yeah, every other week alternated, til they had a vacation/holiday and then it just kept going wherever they were.

Yep, my 15yo has A days and B days, four classes each day. When my older son was in the local alternative school they did a block schedule with all four core classes every day and a different elective for an hour in the afternoon M-Th, and they got out early on Fridays. It worked really well for them at that school, where one of the main focuses was credit reclamation. The kids here don't have a problem with the block schedule or A/B days. They're used to it.
