Hi all, usually just a lurker, but am "coming out" with a question. I like to buy a special book for DS 22, DD 20 and DD 17 for Christmas every year. I am a bit stumped on DD 17. I have bought her all the Mitch Albom books and she loved them. Any ideas on similar books?

I have a favorite book of all times titled Christy it is by Catherine Marshall. It's an oldie but a goodie. It is about a girl who is 17 and goes to Appalacia (SP??) to teach. There used to be a tv show that was based on the book, but as with most shows with real value and morals they took it off. It is quite a long book, but something a 17 yo should be able to read easily.

Another oldie but goodie is Mrs. Mike, I just reread it a few months ago, but Christy is my #1 favorite. There is a lot about friendship, love, caring and giving to others in this book. I had a huge impact on my life. And to think the reason I bought it was because my name is Kristie.

I know Kelsie loves that movie The Notebook and I loved the book. Another one like that is A Walk to Remember.

I have also read all the Mitch Albom books. My favorite is 5 People You Meet in Heaven, although I did like the others. I did enjoy the newest one, Just One More Day I think is the name of it.

Another book that I thought was very good and she might like is My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Love it.

Thanks ladies. I will look into "Christy" for her. She also loves the notebook and has read all of Nicholas Sparks books. I never thought of Jodi Picoult for her. I enjoy them myself. In fact I just picked up Nineteen from the library. The Twilight series looks interesting. Thanks for the ideas!

One of my absolute favorite books when I was that age was Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. It's kind of a gothic mystery. Of course I loved Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights also.

Sue,

I read Nineteen Minutes and it is a fabulous book. It is a tough one to read, but I think it is something kids should read, Maybe they would understand the bullying problem better if they could. But it is a tough book and I don't know if most kids could deal with it.

I agree Julie, I wish it wasn't such a tough book. I don't think I would have even Kelsie read it although I think it would be a good thing for them in theory.

Have you read Nineteen Minutes?
