I feel a bit ridiculous asking for advice on this *blush* Still on a learning curve with my new son... having only raised daughters from birth I occasionally run into my own ineptitude with a 15 year old. He's going to have to start shaving soon - and he hasn't mentioned it. He's got lousy personal hygiene in general, so he probably WON'T really notice until I get him some shaving supplies. What are teen boys using? What kind of razor do I get him, and will he need any instruction on technique? I DID make the trip to the drugstore with my daughter for a "Venus" lady shave, some nice creamy shaving foam, and the basic advice on how to shave legs and armpits, but I'm guessing I'll have to modify this a bit for my son, LOL

Yup, Axe body wash here in St. Louis too - but Snake Peel is out, and so is Touch (but it's ok for the deodorant - LOL) - on to some 'dark purple' one that I have to restock for him today at Target!

They must have a great marketing team.

LOL - here it is strictly "orion" and "phoenix". They all smell much the same to me...and my teenage daughter assures me that all the girls think they stink :-0

My DD hates the stuff. She laughs at the boys who use it;thinking that it will attract the girls. The girls run the other way!

My DS doesn't like it either.

The Axe phenomenon was so strong at DS middle school that it was actually banned from the boys' locker room. I think it might have as much to do with the spray getting into people's eyes as it does the gym teachers finding the 'fragrance' offensive.

Anyway ... even though Axe IS rather pervasive, I much prefer it to a 12yo boy's (i.e., my 12yo boy) 'au naturale' smell. They're typically pretty ripe by the end of the day -- at least mine is!

having taught in a juniour high, I can just about guarantee that the problem was kids spraying it all around the hallways, into each other's lockers, etc.! But yes, it does definitely smell better than unwashed teen age boy, LOL

my son uses an electric razor and loves it. this is what he started with. i assume if he didnt like it, then we would have tried a regular razor. i guess it is trial and error. my son was so exited to shave for the first time. good luck!

Hi everyone. I've never posted anything on a message board before but I've got what I consider to be a funny shaving story. My 14 yr old son decided about a month ago that he needed to start shaving. He has blond hair, and I couldn't see anything that needed shaving but we let him anyway. My six year old has almost black hair and so he has sideburns that show where my older son does not and this bothers him. A lot. So after he took his shower he spent an extra 20 mins. in the bathroom to shave. The funny part to me is how he did not look any different when he came out than he did when he went in. But he's so proud. He used my husband's razor this first time but he got some $ for Christmas and bought his own razor and shaving creme. (4 blades, no hair) He shaves about once a week now but I'm still not sure what for. Honestly, I can't see any hair. My husband says a boy just feels a need to shave when they get to a certain age. Is that true?

I tend to go along with what DH says about "what boys need" since he used to be one, and I grew up in an almost totally female world. LOL However, I'm not so sure about guys feeling that need to shave at a certain age - J has NEVER taken a razor to his face unless someone told him he'd darned well better, be it me, a g/f or the US Army. S was pretty much the same way until the USMC got him, and he now exercises his "I'm not a Marine" rebellion by not shaving on the weekend or when he's on leave. Though in the last batch of pics I got from C, it would appear that he's decided to try to grow a moustache (sp?). At 22 he still can't grow a decent amount of facial hair... J on the other hand, has been a hairy beast since he was about 15! Z is ALWAYS clean shaven, can't stand the feel of even a little growth. I think he started shaving at 12, not that he really needed to! Now one guy that I wish would become aquainted with a razor is N's b/f T. He's 16, blonde, and so proud of what little growth he can manage - but it just looks scruffy to me! I keep telling N to get after him over it, but she insists "it's cute!" Sheesh!

My son uses an electric shaver. It's really easy for him to use, has an attatchment so that he can get a clean line against his side burns and we don't have to worry about cuts. (though really bad acne can be opened up by any razor). My son has only been shaving since November and hasn't gotten it into his daily routine yet, so he needs reminders.
