hey there - i'm new here! i'm mom to a 14 year old daughter.... up until recently she's been somewhat of a tomboy - not that she's into sports but she's always been into video gaming and didn't really have much interest in her clothes and overall look...
to that end- most of her clothes were pretty basic tees and jeans and her bras were almost all jog style - with no real fit or support....
anyway - as she grows older we realize she needs something more - not just for support but also for looks - she's finally wanting to look more like a woman/girl so we set off yesterday for a little bra shopping..
i wear a 36DD - so of course, my knowledge of bras is pretty limited to that size range - so i wasn't sure what to look at for her - and when we went to the store - the only thing i saw were those bras in lots of colors and brands that seem to have formed cups w/padding in them... we ended up buying 2 of them (size 34A) because it seemed that's all there was...
does anyone have more insight into what girls are wearing at this age and bra size? of course, i didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on these either - the ones i got were $15 each and they were buy 2 get 1 free by mail... many other brand name bras were more like $25-$40 each....
thanks so much!

Hi Rachel
My DD is 15 and is 34B or C. What we've ended up doing is trial and error to find the type and fit of bra that she likes. If I find one she likes, I'll go back and buy one or two more (like one in white, one in tan, one in black). My DD tends to not like the ones with padding, since she's pretty much padded enough, but some of her friends like them. She also likes the cute/fancy ones, but those usually come out of her own money. Once you know her size, you can look online - Hanes, Bare Neccessities. We've gotten some good deals.

my dd(14) is a 34c. she started getting boobs about a year and a half ago. she WANTS expensive bras from victorias secret, but i can't bring myself to spend $40 minimum on a bra, even for myself. i guess im too frugal. dillards has nice supportive bras in all price ranges. target is okay, but sort of limited in the supportive kind. i usually take her and just let her try on a ton of bras and she picks a few. she would NEVER let me get her "properly fitted", so i hope her bras fit her good, she wouldnt want me taking a look to see either. in fact i asked to see to make sure and she was like, HELLO- I THINK I KNOW HOW A BRA IS SUPPOSE TO FIT! she has always let me know when she needs a size up.
i dont remember anything about my bra buying experiences as an adolescent. but it wasnt until my first pregnancy that i was a c cup.
good luck

OK - I have to admit that I've been reading this thread and feel completely 'out of the loop'.
Hang in there, is all I can say. In addition to size changes, preferences can really change as teens get older.
Up until about 17, my DD was happy with sports bras or Target "fun" bras (cute prints, etc.). She made fun - privately - of girls who wore padded bras and lumped them in with the "tan in a can" girls. At about 18, she did a sea change and wanted V. Secret and other expensive padded bras - go figure. I bought a few for her as a treat but as she was basically paying for all her other clothes. Then she got a JOB at V. Secret and worked there for about 6 months. It was not a great job but she did end up with about 11 (I'm not kidding) free bras and gave 3 others to me. I asked her how about 14 year old customers and she said most wanted the cotton, no padding, cute bras. She thought it pretty weird when the moms would promote the padded push up styles for young teens.
Good luck!
