Braces

My son got his braces on today. When he first got the spacers he was in pain for
several days. Today they told him that this wouldn't be as bad, and to expect
discomfort for a couple of days. He is complaining about this hurting more than
the spacers. He is having trouble with biting into his food, which I understand
completely. I am fixing softer foods. He took some aleve when he came
home from school, and tonight he took Advil. Does anyone have any suggestions as to
how I might make him more comfortable. Everytime I dosed off to sleep tonight he
came in and woke me up, which means he must be really in misery. I am up for a
while now, so I thought that maybe some of you all out there might have a suggestion
or two.
THANKS IN ADVANCE...

I live in Santa Barbara, and I think that orthodontia, like everything else here,
WELL, DH and I both work at the local state university.
when the insurance plan offered extended benefits, we
jumped at it.. although it cost more, we got coverage
for our childrens braces, (only one got them) and we
have coverage on optho - glasses...etc. So although
our insurance helps, the braces are still expensive.
The coverage only will cover 1,200 (LIFETIME).
My DD went to the same orthodontist and he said that
unless we break her jaw and move it forward, that
the braces would leave her with an overbite! Well,
we didn't want to do this to her, she is beautiful
and we couldn't stand the thoughts of doing this to
her. And she sit there and told us, I don't want
braces, my teeth are fine.
However, sometimes I think that the dentists and the
orthodontist have a payback scheme going on... the
dentist wouldn't remove my DD's teeth until he got
the go ahead from the orhtodontist.. I mean, hey
its her mouth, our money and so why didn't he
want to remove the "fangs" as she called them
that was way above her other teeth, almost into the
roof of her mouth!! They claimed that they can
usually move these teeth down and in her case
they couldn't. So oh well... here we are
with DS's braces costing 5,000.
Thanks to all that responded, my DS is feeling some better
and he is beginning to eat more. So thanks to all!!
