Cell Phone Dropped in Water

DS dropped his cell in, let's just say some water, and now it's not working. I know I've read previous posts about the same type thing and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions to revive it. Right now it's not turning on.

(ITA on the hair dryer) - would you believe ds's 16 year old friend just got his wet last week AND PUT IT IN THE MICROWAVE TO DRY!? Duh. Oh, well. Luckily his dad had lost his phone and bought a new one, and then his old one turned up, so they just transfered friend's phone number to dad's old phone.

DUH - if a cell will work after being left in a hot car, the heat of a hair dryer isn't going to kill it!
Quickly remove the battery.
Make sure the unit is off. Go to the store and buy a 5 lb bag or rice.
When you return from the store, throw the cell phone and battery away.
Inform the teenager they will be eating only rice for the next three months while you scrape up enough money to replace the stupid phone.
Good...be sure you give it at least two days to dry before replacing the battery and trying to turn it on. Keep it in the sun (warm) if you can.
After two days when you try it, if it doesn't work, first try replacing the battery--ATT might have a battery you can try if yours doesn't work. Only after you find that a new battery doesn't work should you think of ditching the phone.
Fortunately, every thing worked fine for me after mine took a dip. When I turned it on, there was a message that flashed saying it was unstable or something. The darn things are programmed to tell the wireless provider when they get wet!
Daddioe obiously has no experience with wet cells, but he may be able to help you if you have trouble cooking rice.

The eye roll is from my DS. ROFLOL is from me.
DS is a very lucky person today. It was time for me to upgrade my phone for free so DH and I went to Verizon and picked up a new phone (DS didn't know we were doing it.) I had them put his cell number on my old phone and presented it when we got home. I told him that this was his only reprieve and next time he would be replacing the cell himself. If only I had read your reply before we went to Verizon - I could have threatened a rice diet. Yum yum.
I still hope I can revive the old phone just in case something happens to either of ours in the future.
Thank you all for your help. This is such a lively and lovely group.

I actually read in the papers yesterday that if you get either a cell phone or an Ipod wet, you can put it in a bag of gel type cat litter to dry it out.
