Cell phones revisited

Well…..it finally happened….

Remember the thread a few weeks ago about cell phones, and what to do when our air headed, irresponsible teenagers put them through the laundry or drop them in the toilet?

Brand new Samsung Juke, exactly 33 days old goes through the washing machine. A top loading washing machine might give it a fighting chance. Never mind the actual water damage - our front loading washing machine put the thing in pieces.

Something good comes out of everything. You may have lost a cell phone, but we get all this good advice....

Don't buy a front loading washing machine if you own a cell phone.

Insure your cell with your homeowner's policy, not with the wireless provider.

Drop your cell in the toilet instead of putting it thru the wash--at least it's salvageable then.

When the family dwindles to just three at home, our DHs, DDs and DSs should start doing their own laundry. (My DH should've been doing his the past 6 years.)

Thanks!

Yea, that deductible is the reason we don't get the insurance anymore. $50! yea, right.

While giving major props to Daddioe here, I must say, my DH does his fair share AND MORE of housework, INCLUDING LAUNDRY.

I don't know why anyone would give you grief either...maybe jealousy? My brother does cleaning and cooking and takes care of all of the outside. I have another guy friend who does it all...shopping, cooking, cleaning and child care, along with his job. I guess his wife's job is more demanding and that's just how it worked out.

I do all of the housework...I take care of all the animals...I do 99% of the chauffeuring....pay the bills...upkeep on the vehicles...the shopping...solve the problems...take care of the pool in the summer...I have a garden, that's my responsibility, altho the past 2 years DS has done the initial spring turnover for me....gradually I've come to expect more from my kids...they MUST keep their personal space what I call acceptable. When they use the kitchen, they have to at least put their dishes in the sink and wipe down the counters...I don't mind loading the dishwasher, but I hate seeing stuff *out* and a mess on my island, etc. Same for the bathroom.

My son has always been neat. He regularly vacuums and dusts his room, cleans his fishtank, and is generally very organized. He has learned to do his own laundry by choice. Mostly because he keeps his hamper in his room and usually realizes it needs doing at a point where I'm not about to...like 8:00 at night. Everyone needs to have these skills eventually anyways.

My youngest DD is semi organzied. If I motivate her, things will get done and well and she feels very satisfied afterwards. Oldest DD, not so. She is messy...I will work with her to get her room ship-shape, and say, now, isn't that better? And she'll say, Mommy, I really don't care how my room looks...so, with her, if her room is left nasty and bed unmade, she knows she has to do that before anything else after school. Its getting better.

DH makes the money...he has an office, he does do the cleaning there...it's two rooms, but it can get pretty nasty...he and DS share the yardwork. He will grocery shop maybe once a year, and buy all the wrong things. And if I don't feel well or simply don't feel like cooking, he make a call, lol.

Apologies for taking this thread way off topic, but I feel that in the name of simple conversation, its okay.

I suppose jealousy is a culprit, but I don't criticize others for how they live..I dont' always agree, but that is MY opinion......and I don't need to share it if it directly conflicts w/ someone elses' lifestyle.
