Cell phones revisited

Well…..it finally happened….
Remember the thread a few weeks ago about cell phones, and what to do when our air headed, irresponsible teenagers put them through the laundry or drop them in the toilet?
Brand new Samsung Juke, exactly 33 days old goes through the washing machine. A top loading washing machine might give it a fighting chance. Never mind the actual water damage - our front loading washing machine put the thing in pieces.

You know, maybe I've just been lucky, to surround myself with supportive people, but I've never gotten much grief over my lifestyle. Quite the opposite, in fact. I do get to spend tons of time with my kids and still maintain things the way I like them.
Occasionally I will hear some sort of snarky remark from a friend of a friend of a friend, but I've never had a problem with anyone who matters to me.
You know what, it's all good.
Well, DH works in a paint store and somehow dropped his cell into a gallon of paint.
Apologies for taking this thread way off topic, but I feel that in the name of simple conversation, its okay.
I've never understood that. Maybe I should read up on forum etiquette... lol. I think threads should go in any direction people like.
Daddioe, I expect you are ANYTHING but old fashioned and stereotypical.
Julie,
It was my fault too when B's Ipod went through the washing machine.
OH NOOOO!!!!

ROFL... shels, you are too kind.
True...The closest thing I have to a pipe and smoking jacket is an oversized fleece robe, and a cup of tea. It was my Granddad who actually played the pipe and smoking jacket card, with great flair. lol
The queen spends all day in the public school system with teens that have been kicked out of every other program offered. Her program is the last resort. These kids have nothing. They have no parenting, no supervision, parents are often in jail, and they are reluctantly shuffled around to various relatives who consider them a pain in the A. Many come to school only because it's a heated building and there is something to eat. They follow a cycle of poverty and they don't know how to act with authority figures (teachers) because they've never been taught. Asking them to get a pencil will often generate a "f**k you". Yet, they have a right to a public education. So much for "No Child Left Behind". Surprisingly, she actually reaches a lot of these kids. She's done this work for 30 years. Why? I don't know. I don't get it. Never will. I've been trying to get her to quit for a long time. Especially recently, when her physical safety has been an issue. It has taken its toll on her. She's spent at the end of the day.
I agree with you Shels; it’s simply a matter of balancing out what needs to be done. While it would really be cool to be nominated for sainthood because I made dinner.... lol... the reality is, it's my night...we're both hungry...we need to eat...and it's my turn. (sigh) I guess there's no glowing aura above my head. As I'm typing
Daddioe, your wife, er, the queen, sounds like a very strong woman and I'll bet she's a great partner. She may be hesitant to leave her work if she thinks there's even one more kid she can help.
A friend of mine, after shuffling from one teaching job to another, finally found her calling working in a prison. She teaches GED classes to young men in a med. security prison. Frankly, sounds like our wife's job is more demanding...my friend has the bonus of an armed guard in the room at all times. As you can imagine, there's still stories...and the discipline system is simple than a public school, one strike, you're out.
It's not just parenting that's a balancing act, is it? Life is a balancing act too.
I have to say that I totally admire your DW for her dedication to what must be a really tough job.
"my beautiful queen."
Oh....cute! What mom wouldn't like that?
