Christmas is almost here and I would love some ideas of what your teens like to do at Christmas.

We don't have a very large extended family so my teenage daughter and my pre-teen son actually really enjoy spending time with family.

One great tradition for all ages is gingerbread houses! We started when the kids were little but they still love it. My 16 year old turned down plans with friends to be home for the day.

I make the houses ahead of time (using a box mix) and then we spend an afternoon decorating. We always invite another family to join us and ask them to bring some candy too. Then we have tons of goodies! Every year we come up with new ideas (this year was a tootsie roll reindeer!)

I love decorating a house too -- it is my favorite holiday tradition.

One of the things my ds looks forward to the most at Christmas is the family dinner on Christmas eve.

Well, this year my kids are 12, 15, 18 and 49. (lol)

We stay in and watch It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve...sometimes DH gets food at the Italian market...the kids can do what they want, have friends over, etc., but I like them to sleep home that night of course. I say that because DS has a friend who has stayed here overnight Christmas Eve for many years now...I always give him new sleep pants...

Christmas Day we go to a diner for breakfast and then lounge. We'll watch a movie all together....anything from Home Alone to Legally Blonde, one year we even watched Bad Santa. Sick, but I like Billy Bob Thornton.

Not Christmas, but I find that my DD16 likes most of the same things now for Hannukah as she always has. She might use the excuse of her little brother (8yo) as her reason, but she won't give up our traditions. It almost doesn't matter WHAT the traditions are - for us it's lighting the candles, saying the prayers, and eating the latkes - it's keeping those things going that kids like. One that has been special here is homemade apple sauce, in my grandmother's recipe (which was really just adding cinnamon candies) - both kids count on that for Hannukah.

I think our extended family is at an odd stage right now.
