Those of you with seniors, have they been good about getting college applications completed and sent?

You should check w/ each school on when the apps have to be in because each one is diff.

I would look at the three schools he is interested in and see exactly when the deadlines are. I know with my DD 2 of the schools she was interested in had what they refer to as rolling admissions. They would start at the beginning of October reviewing all applications that had arrived and sending acceptance letters until the freshman class was filled, so students who applied earlier rather than later had a better chance. The third school had a definite cut off date and reviewed all applications received at that time. Actually both of mine had their college applications sent by the end of August, it really depends on the schools. The scholarship information came much later in the early spring but well before the May 1st deposit date.

Check the application dates and the way they process them and if needed the duct tape sounds like a good idea to me LOL.

With that schedule and the rolling admissions I would explain that he needs to get them in NOW. My DS knew he wanted to go to Pitt, but I wanted him to have another option even though he had been accepted so I made him apply to Penn State, which also has rolling admissions. They recommended you apply by Thanksgiving weekend at the latest, he applied the weekend after and did not get accepted. Guidance was very surprised because students that had lower GPA's were accepted, but it was because he applied so late. It didn't really matter because he was going to Pitt anyway. Not sure how his schools are, but the ones DD applied to started looking at applications the first of October on a weekly basis and sending the acceptance letters. Sometimes I think they drag their feet because it really signals that high school is ending. Especially when they have been so involved as your son appears to be, maybe sit with him while he does the applications, they really don't take that long, he could probably be done in less than an hour. Good luck!

We have it easy here. In December, DS & I will sit in front of the computer. He will
go online to the secure website for university applications. His high school will give him his own "password". His marks will already be posted on the secure site (only he & the university admissions have access to it). He will fill out the general application. Check off which universities he wants to apply to and for what programs. He can apply to more than 1 program per 3 universities. We will pay the fee (about $160 or less). He will hit the submit button. That's it. If he wants to apply to more places, he can.

Simple...

Wow, you are lucky that this seems like such a simple process. My daughter went through this last year and it was the essays that consumed her. Are you sure that there are no mini-essays buried in the online applications? If it's really just a matter of sitting down and focusing on completing a straightforward application, I'd figure out in your own head the latest point at which he can complete the form safely and give him time and room to do it on his own. My bet is that he will. We parents tend to get a lot more nervous about these things than the kids--I was a nervous wreck last year but dd took care of everything and got it all in on time. If, on the off chance, he doesn't get to it by the time he really should, then it's time to "nudge" him to sit down and get the things done.

Do these schools have rolling admissions? If so, the earlier the better to get the apps in. If not, relax--easier said than done, I know.
