Concerned about music

Is anyone aware of any websites that provide parents with reviews of music by popular (and even lesser-known) bands? I'm a little concerned about some of the music my 13 y/o DS is listening to. He loves music, but the bands he likes are ones I'm not at all familiar with. And short of going online and downloading lyrics to all of their songs, I'm not sure how appropriate some of this stuff is. He needs me to put in a password before he can download songs for his iPod, but I don't even know what this stuff is most of the time.

I go to a website called lyrics.com when I have questions about the words to songs. I don't know how updated it is or if they are catering to certain music types, but most of the time when I am looking for a song, it is there.

There are plenty of websites that show lyrics as well as websites about the bands themselves that you could look at. Just consider that alot of times we don't even know the lyrics or don't listen to closely and we still don't care. I think of a lovely song, White Houses, by Vanessa Carlton that was popular a few years back. The girl had a lovely sweet voice and she played piano accompanying her voice. Lots of girls loved the song and we would go to dance competitions and little girls would be dancing to it. Everyone's focus was on the lovely, young voice. Well, the whole story being told through the song was about a young girl's summer memories of losing her virginity including speaking of a rush of blood and some pain. And yet no one really ever paid attention to the lyrics closely enough because of the beauty of the melody...
