Could use some P&PT (again)

As you all know Jason went back to college 2nd semester after spending 13 weeks in the local ED partial hospitalization program from Aug-Nov 2006. He did 'okay' over the holidays and early on at college but then he started struggling again. He got home in May and again went downhill pretty fast like he did last summer. He started working full time the day after he returned but came to us 2 1/2 weeks ago on Sunday to let us know that he was having a tougher time than he was letting on. He's very depressed - feels like he's a disappointment, 'defective', etc. And of course the depression manifested itself in more and more ED behaviors. He quit his job (with our blessing) and called the ED clinic first thing Monday morning to make an appointment T and N - that was set up for last Tuesday. Then later that day he got his acceptance letter as a transfer student to the premed program at Northwestern University. He had applied last winter and had pretty much figured he'd not gotten in. He was SO excited and I saw his old 'spark' for the first time in a long time. He went to his appointment last Tuesday and as I suspected they recommended treatment again - a couple weeks PHP and then several weeks IOP. Last time he discharged before they advised after only 2 weeks of IOP as he wanted to start working full time before heading back to school. At first he wanted to try to work on his issues on an outpatient basis but then decided to follow their advice. Tuesday was his first day back in the program. He had labs done on Monday and once again his liver enzymes are elevated, his white blood count is low, and his cretanin (something to do with the kidneys) is high.

Oh Pam! I am so sorry to hear that Jason is struggling with this again/still. I hope this course of treatment does the trick - and it sounds like he's taking it a bit more seriously - that it's something he has to "own" before it will be resolved.

Best of luck to him, and (((HUGS))) to you!

It seems that it should go better this time round, Pam. The fact that he's aware of the mistakes he's made and the HUGE boost of confidence he must have experienced after hearing he's been accepted at Northwestern, should make things easier for him. Tell Jason that we moms think he needs to be proud, and there's no reason he should feel like he's a disappointment when his accomplishments outweigh his slip-ups.

Hi Pam,
So sorry you and Jason are going through this again.
One step backward and two steps forward!
Sounds like he's truly committed.
Best of luck in his treatment and studies.
What a wonderful opportunity for him.

It sounds like he knows what his priorities are, and the entry to NU is a huge factor in moving forward. Lots of PPT heading you guys' way.

I'm so sorry this ED isn't quite behind you all yet, Pam. Hopefully, the admission to NU is just the thing Jason needs to really commit to getting healthy again.

My prayers will be with you!
