DD absolutely loves Lacrosse....

She appears to have a "knack" for it and is loving every second of it. She said the coaches have been giving her special attention, teaching her the harder moves and using her as an example of what to do. They even love her when she is conditioning and again use her as an example on how to do it right. Yesterday, her 2nd day of practice, the coaches sent her to practice with varsity while they worked with those that couldn't grasp it. Rumor has it they are looking for 5 girls from jv to swing varsity. The only awkwardness is she doesn't know too many of the girls on varsity and they apparently don't know her. They are all really nice to her, but I guess they all make comments about cheerleaders - lol they don't know she is a cheerleader!

On a more somber note, poor bf busted his ankle yesterday and dd feels completely responsible. School gets out at 2pm. DD's practice was from 3pm-5pm. Bf's practice started at 5:15pm. They made the plan to hang out together afterschool until dd's practice. Once dd went to her practice, apparently bf was goofing off w/ his friends (I think playing football) just wasting time until his baseball practice started. He had a slot on varsity too. I guess it's not broken (according to the school trainer), but dd said the ankle was huge and he's in a lot of pain. He never went to the doctors to get it checked - he tends to be "manly" and doesn't need doctors.

Another good note - supposedly dd is all caught up from all the work she missed after missing a million days. She has an A and a B+, she doesn't know her grade in her 3rd class.

I just had to share about her loving lax. I would have never thought it and the attention she is getting from the coaches is boosting her self-esteem big time...

What a great post! I"m glad your DD is feeling better, catching up on missed work, and finding a new sport that she loves. She needed a boost - it's so nice to see it happen. My DD is also doing a new sport (softball) where she didn't know the girls before starting - it's been a nice stretch for her.

Good news about school work too!

That's wonderful. DS is still having trouble with energy; went for another exam today to some GI specialists; liver seems ok, spleen still big. His grades aren't so hot - 3.0 average for last quarter. They want him to start some slow physical activity - they were not going to let him do anything prior, and still no physical contact, but she wants him to start doing something like biking or walking. I think that'll help his morale, but not sure on the grades yet! She said when she had mono as a senior, it was a good 9 months before she was back to 'normal' - we're only at 5.

Wow, your son has really been through the ringer with this. My dd, thankfully, appears completely back to normal. Had her's drug out any longer I think we would have pulled each other's hair out - haha. She was miserable. I hope your son is back to 100% soon!!

Thanks Sue - I'm really proud of how she's handling things here lately. I still can barely get her to do her pt exercises all the time, but with everything on her plate, she has handled it all pretty well.

The Lax team has their first scrimmage on the 12th and the coaches have her practicing on Varsity and they want her on Varsity in the scrimmage (she's a freshman). She won't play with JV at all. Considering she has NEVER played in or seen a lacrosse game this should be interesting lol. She played soccer for years, but it's been awhile, and I guess maybe that's helping her in this new venture! The coaches have even had her teaching some other "new to the sport" girls on the fundamentals. She's not sure if she wants Varsity. She didn't go into this sport to "excel" at it. She only did it to keep busy and stay in shape lol. She also knows she would get more playing time on JV.

In addition to the lacrosse "glory," she is back to cheering too. She is doing the invitational competition cheering squad. She is flying again and front/center for everything. Between the two, this kid couldn't be happier.

Best of luck to your dd with softball. I think the biggest shock for dd with the Lax girls was their dislike for cheerleaders lol....
