DD and Homecoming

OMG, DD PMS'ed herself into a real crab yesterday before homecoming. She grumbled and groused the entire day about how much she didn't want to go and she very nearly didn't! She passed on the Homecoming game alotgether, and just ended up at the dance. This is too funny (to me) not to share ...
DD, before the dance: I just don't feel like the same person this year. I don't want to be bothered at all with any of this. Maybe I AM depressed. I just don't know what is wrong with me! Now mom, don't go and get yourself worked up and worry about me all night.
Me: I'm not worried at all. I'm going to drop you off at the dance and you're going to go in and have a great time!
Before: I really don't want to go to this dance. I'm only going because I promised F and K I would.
After: Once we got inside, I didn't see F and K hardly at all! I was too busy.
Before: I can't believe the dance is in the GYM! This is going to be so LAME!
After: OMG! The gym looked so awesome! It was a jungle theme and there were tables all covered in different shades of green tablesclothes with birds of paradise plants as centerpieces and there was a steam machine thing that kept setting the smoke alarms off, but they finally figured out what was wrong ... even the bathrooms were decorated like a jungle! It was so cool!
Before: I'm probably not even dressed right. I feel fat and ugly and boring.
After: I can't believe how many people almost didn't recognize me! They all said I looked so pretty!
Before: I'm probably not even going to dance very much, probably not at all. The dj will probably only play rap music and everyone will be dirty and freak dancing and I'll just be standing around.
After: OMG my feet hurt so bad! I danced almost the entire night! It was so fun! The dj played The Macarena, The Electric Slide and 'Shout'! I even got M (gf) out on the dance floor! And you should see M (guy friend) from my Religion class dance! He knows all the moves to the 'Greased Lightening" song! Just like in the movie.
Before: I hope the food is good, that's probably all I'm going to do. Eat and play blackjack in the 'casino'.
After: Can we stop for something to eat? I'm STARVING! I only ate two cookies the whole night.
Casino? Oh, I really don't know, I didn't go in at all.
Before: We're locked in until 10:00. I'll probably be ready to go right about then.
After: 10:45pm. That was probably the funnest dance I've ever been to!
Me: Teenagers. Egad.

ROFL!!
That is the funniest teen/mom conversation ever!! Moments like these have taught me to *not* react to every single thing my DD says - some of it *will* blow over and/or just not be true!
Glad C had such a great time! Any photos?
Julie,
That is just too funny!! Thanks for the update and I'm glad your dd had a great time!

This absolutely cracked me up!
And you handled it so beautifully.
It's a good reminder for me that we don't need to "process" and "get to the bottom of" their moods all the time.
sheesh... I would have probably wanted to know who was bothering her. What she was trying to avoid. What she was afraid of....... yadeyadeya....
Sometimes I need to learn to back off and let the normal teen yo-yo do it's naturally occurring thing..... :-)
No, no photos at all. She was in such a snit that I wouldn't even have attempted picture taking. It was a more casual event this year ... C dressed up a pair of jeans with a lacy top, blazer and heels.
Oh ... and I only saw ONE limo. It was a big huge monstrosity, but things were definitely toned down this year.

That's my normal MO too daddio, but I'm learning. This kid has always been pretty finely tuned, right from the get go ... she screamed all the way home from the hospital and then pretty much non-stop for the next 5 weeks. I think she was 10 before I was able to sleep through the night. Guess things haven't changed all that much in 15 years -- but I'm the one who's still trying to figure it all out! Must be a slow learner, tho because it's taken me this long to learn that sometimes (like this time) doing nothing is the best thing to do!
Our highschool recently installed really comfy padded seats in the bleachers. Some of them recline backward several inches, supposedly to accomodate bad backs. Should I be worried?......
