DD going to prom Sat. WITH the GIRLS!

After trudging along for the past month trying to figure out if it was going to work out with her going to prom with ex-BF, my DD told me today she is not going to prom with him. She is going with five girlfriends. She told me in a text message on her way home from a soccer game (we were catching up on the day since I hadn't seen her). I told her that sounds like a lot of FUN and told her she could invite everyone over for pictures by the magnolia bush and snacks. Since we were texting, I couldn't get all the details.... don't know how it finally came down to this choice but I am so happy for her. Now she can relax and have fun. I don't know how she feels about the ex-BF or anything... I will chat with her tonight hopefully. I am very curious. She does have a new guy in her life, again he is not my idea of a dreamboat but that doesn't really matter. He does seem to treat her with respect and now she has some "experience" in moving on. I was rather afraid that the ex was going to keep her convinced that she was the only girl for him for life. He did tell her things like that and I guess that flattered her, but I could really see DD making more mature decisions after she took a "break" from the BF. She became much stronger and more of an individual. I am thanking the Lord and everyone else for the strong support. When I think about prom, so many of the prom dates don't pan out. Kids have to ask one another so far in advance that by the time the event comes, so often the kids don't even like their date anymore. So that night should be a great way to mingle with others whose date didn't work out as planned; they can have fun anyway!

My oldest DD went to prom with a big group of girls and had a blast. They didn't have to worry about impressing anyone or flirting or any of that stuff. They just got all dressed up for themselves and had a wonderful time. Prom should be more about celebrating their accomplishments and the end of the school year not about romance.
