Since I started the discussion on how to pay for college, I thought I would let you know that my DD got a tuition scholarship to any state university, based on her scores on the test they have to take to graudate from high school. She doesn't care at all because she said 125 students in her class (out of 400-500) got this scholarship, so she doesn't feel special. I said, yes, but what about the 300 that didn't get it?
This sounds really good, but what the Mass state university system has done is that every school has the same "tuition" which is only about $1500/yr. for state residents, however, the "fees" are set by each individual school and cost way more than the tuition. So that if she went to the main campus of the Univ. of Mass. and lived there, it would still cost $15,000 per year and the scholarship is only for $1500. Well, it's something we won't have to pay and she could still get other scholarships too.

I think that's very cool and she should be proud to have recieved it!
That's wonderful. You should still take her out for something special - just to let her know you think its special. That will also give her a little extra incentive to fill out the forms for the other scholarships that are out there.
