DD Graduated and Turned 18

Last week was a very wild, exciting week for us. DD graduated high school on Monday and turned 18 on Wednesday. Oldest DD got to come home for graduation but had to leave before the birthday. My nephew (24) brought his g/f to the family graduation celebration - he's never introduced a girl to the whole family before so this was very exciting. On Thursday, he called me and told me that he asked her to marry him so we also had an engagement last week.

DD graduated with distinguised honors!! Not to shabby for someone that was in serious danger of failing some classes her sophomore year. I'm extremely proud of the turn around she's made in her life.

I also want to take a minute to say thanks to all of you for your support over the past few years. I know my time as a parent of a teen isn't over yet but I feel like I'm in the home stretch and stand a chance of least not falling down and breaking a leg and having to be shot!!

Wow! What an exciting week you had! Congratulations to your DD and to your nephew too. Sending your some cyber-champagne to help you celebrate ... whoops! Well, maybe not some champagne ... how about some sparkling cider instead?

Congrats to you and your dd! I know you're in the home stretch, but if I could be a little selfish here I hope you hang around a bit for the rest of us who could benefit from your btdt experience. Graduating with honors - what an inspiration for those who have struggled in the past!

By the way, is your dd still on Strattera? My ds16 has been on it for about 4 weeks now - not noticing a change yet. He gets sick if he misses it even one day, and last week because he took his pill in the morning, by PM he couldn't keep his eyes open and slept for hours that afternoon, so unlike him it was scary! We found out Strattera makes some sleepy, some too wakeful. Now he takes his pill at night and no more sleepiness.

Thanks!

DD is still on Strattera and she has to take hers at night as well but not b/c of sleepiness. It makes her queasy so she takes it before she goes to bed so that she can sleep through that part of it.

She got her belly-button pierced today and DH had a fit. I got a little upset with him and pointed out to him that this is the girl that stood up to her b/f and told her that she did not want to continue having sex. She's also informed her b/f recently that she has no intention of joining his partying ways. I pointed out to DH that we are durned lucky to have her where she is and if piercing her belly-button was the wildest thing she does this summer we'll be lucky. I was not about to join in on his little complain about DD party. He shut-up real quick and decided to go do something outside.

He was all smiles and sunshine at supper!! Now if I can just get to make the same kind of turn around she did!

Oh yes tobylady! You really must stick around until the rest of us are all finished growing our teens into adults :-) I think I can probably speak for more than just myself in saying that you have some really spot-on advice, btdt experience and well, you're just a great person to 'know'!
