I just found that my 14 year old dd just pierced her own nose with a needle that she dipped in alcohol and then she stuck an earring in the hole.

I think you were right in having her remove the earring. IF she were to have it pierced she shouldn't have an earring in her nose there are noserings to be used for that, an earring would just poke into other parts of her nostril and cause more problems.

Yes it could be a problem if she isn't careful to keep the piercing clean. Be sure she keeps it cleaned and I would put some antibacterial ointment on it just to be safe. If you see any signs of infection, call the doctor right away.

Wow, that must have really hurt to pierce it like that. Let her know that in the future if she wants a piercing and you agree to it that there are professionals who will do it the right way.

Hope all works out okay.

I'm not a nurse like Rose but just wanted to tell you that my dd has about five ear piercings, one that she did herself (without my knowledge).

I'm so sorry you feel this way Lori but remember this....if ALL your teenage daughter does to concern you in her adolescent years is poke a few holes in herself, consider yourself lucky.

Ow.. That hurt just 'reading' that!

My kids have gone through various phases of piercings. All fairly short lived. My middle son got his tongue pierced despite my threats of visiting him in his sleep with a pair of rusty pliers...

It only lasted a few months before he got tired of it. If I remember correctly, the few weeks 'after' the piercing is critical to keep the wound disinfected while the hole heals.
