DD tried out for a theater group

DD's school has several theater groups and productions each year. She has been tempted to try out but has been scared/nervous and said "lower grades never get parts"(it's a 7-12 school, and she's now in 9th). Then two of her friends were in fall productions, and another friend agreed to try out with her, so they did it! It's a student run theater group, and the try out was to read/recite a monologue of about one minute. She and her friend had to read monologue books and find one they liked, and decide how to present it, etc. I'm so proud of her for getting over the reluctance to put herself out there. Most adults would see her as pretty confident, but this was a hard step to take (out in front of upper classes kids, who are cool, and some are really cute lol). She said the tryout went well, but is not counting on getting in - it's competetive - so I think it's in perspective.

Coming from a mom of a DS who lacks a lot of confidence, I am SO happy your DD got up the nerve to try out! Good for her, and you never know, she could make it! Laura

Sue,
Good for her!!! I will cross my fingers for her to get a part ... any part. My dd and dh are both into theater. It is so much fun ... the cast and crew really bond in a special way. Dh started out building sets, then doing crew and soon found himself onstage. Dd (drama queen extrodinnaire) has always loved being onstage. She is usually in the chorus - has never had a solo, but it doesn't matter. It's still fun. Sadly, she did not try out for the spring play at school because she was afraid that the rehearsals, etc would cause too much pressure with grades and all. She's in a 7-12 school also (9th), but the 7th & 8th grade have their own productions.

Anyway, I know you're proud of your dd for auditioning and you should be!
