Yeah! My senior 18dd was accepted into both schools she applied to, including her first choice, the CIA (Culinary Institute of America)!! We're very excited over here - she was whooping and screaming she was so excited - it was funny because I was on the phone with her when I picked up the mail and she asked if the envelope was thick or thin (??) and when I told her it was kinda thick, she got real excited so she obviously felt in her heart that it was a yes...and it was!
Now all the paperwork....and bills....lol

Oh how exciting! Congratulations to both of you! Did you ever think this time would get here so quickly?
Congratulations again!
Congratulations! I am excited for you. How far away from home will she be? How long is the program? I have a cousin that went to chef school in France. He loved it.
We've already completed the housing and meal plan paperwork. Just got to work on the FAFSA now. DD probably won't qualify but the school won't even look at scholarships unless they info on file. I usually put off taxes to the last minute but not this year (grrrr).
Have fun and enjoy the last few months with her!!
I remember Pam talking about this last year with her son. On the one hand you're so excited as a parent to see your child growing up and pursuing thier dreams, achieving thier goals and making thier own life. But then, on the other hand, you mourn the loss of having this special child in your life full time.
I am especially close with this dd, she's such a HUGE help to me and I will miss her terribly when she goes away.
Wow - your housing and meal plan is in place? Again, I am feeling behind!
Dd will be about 2 hours away from home and the program is approximately 38 months long if she goes for her Bachelors in Baking & Pastry Arts. If she does the Associates program I think it's just under 24 months. Either way, she's close enough to visit and come home once in a while. Plus, she will have her car with her.
My plans for this evening include sending in my FASFA on line - what fun. And then we'll wait to hear from CIA and begin the other process. I am so curious what type and amount of aid we will be eligible for....and how much we'll (me and dd) have to borrow.
We were just talking about her summer work schedule and plans. She thinks she is going to whoop it up this summer and do a bunch of road trips. I think I bummed her out when I told her that she has to work full time and save save save for the fall. She glared at me. I don't care. She's not spoiled, just your typical senioritis going on I think!
Good luck to you!

(yes, thin envelopes are bad...)
(yes, thin envelopes are bad...) See? Now I didn't know that, but it makes sense when I think about it!
Thanks for the well wishes - it's going to be great. I think it's bad having her an aspiring pastry chef, can you imagine how hard it's going to be to diet after she's been educated in the art of food?? And yes, if you ever get a chance to go there for lunch or dinner, the campus has like 5 restaurants all with thier own specialty, it's an amazing experience. The food is outstanding and the campus is gorgeous. We went to the CA Greystone campus last year while on vaca and it overlooks the great redwoods and the vineyards - it's breathtaking. She is going to the NY campus.
Congrats to your DD! My dad's girlfriend used to teach at CIA (before she moved) and said nothing but good things about their program. I'm so excited for both of you!
