HI! im 13 years old. I am so depressed! My parents ignore all the signs and won't even address it. I am suffering in school and at home. I need some advice on what to do! I have been doing things that I normally wouldn't do! Can someone give me some advice?

You don't mention any specifics, but if you think you need help, start with your school.

Go to your school counselor and explain whatever it is that is happening with you.

Go now.

I agree that you should talk to a school counclor. If you attent a church or something, you could talk to the minister, priest, etc. My son is 13, and this is a rough year without being depressed on top of all the other changes you are probably going through. Could you try to write a letter to your parents? If they see it in writing, where you can take time to gather your thoughts before you write it, maybe what you are trying to say will then sink in. I hope you find someone to listen to you. I will be thinking of you.

You might feel your parents don't care but it could be because they don't know you're depressed or they don't understand depression. So if you start by telling them, either face to face or in a note as someone else suggested, that will open the door for discussion. If they say, "Oh, it's just a phase" or something like that, stick to your guns and insist on getting help. If they still don't understand, then go to someone else. Your school is a good place to start, and a teacher or counselor can tell you the next step to take. I admire you for recognizing how you feel and wanting to get help! Bravo for you. As I told my daughter recently, "You don't have to always be sad. Life doesn't always have to be a chore. You can be happy!" Let us know how you do with this.
