Of course I understand and I agree.
It is unfortunately the way of the human animal. We are,by instinct, a herd animal. And, consequently, we are naturally wary of anyone not like us and not in our herd. It is very difficult to counteract this type of thinking because it is part of our "defensive mechanism" for survival.

I agree. In many ways, the world has improved over the last 60 years. Gee, my poor grandparents were heart broken that some of their kids married Anglophones and a few were even Protestants! They must be rolling in their graves now with the ethnic mix of their great-grandkids! The "pure laines" (Catholic French Canadian) are in the minority.

But as we eliminate one evil, another rears its ugly head. Wait till you hit your mid 50s. Ageism is very prevalent.

Here,we live in a very multi-cultural mosaic. Blue-eyed blond white kids are fast becoming a visible minority in my kid's high school which is a good thing. (My poor DD has been complaining that her university is too "white bread".) Many of my friends are either children of new Canadians or were born elsewhere (Turkey, Iran, mainland China, Saudia Arabia, Guyana, Iran, Ukraine, Germany, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Kosovo, Serbia.....)
