Shoot, Pam...I won't be there today. :( I was up allllll night (and I mean *literally* all night) with my lab as she was having puppies! She started giving birth at 11:30 last night and the last one was born at 4:45 this morning. I've not been to bed yet. I am fixing to leave work and go home and go to bed. :) BTW, she had 8 babies! I just hope they are still all alive when I get home. This is her first litter and I'm afraid she might accidentally smother one. Dustin is planning on selling them. hummpppffff. The dog lives at *my* house, *I* was the one that stayed up all night with her, and *I* will be the one worrying about the little rascals, yet *he* reaps the profits....what is wrong with this picture?? ;)

Please tell everyone Merry Christmas for me!

Eight puppies? How sweet. I had to say goodbye to my beloved yellow lab a year ago on the 26th. If we ever sell this house and get settled into a place with a larger yard (and that is the plan!) my first order of business is to get a dog! And probably a lab, they are just the greatest dogs.

Good luck with your 'babies'. Do we call you 'grannie' now? tee hee ...

I'm so sorry about your beloved lab. It's so hard when you lose a pet.
The babies *are* sweet. Noisy, but sweet. :)

The boys' step mom called me yesterday and asked if we were granmas. LOL I got to thinking...if the mama dog is actually my son's dog, then would that make the puppies my great-grandchildren??? LOL

I know I'm going to fall in love with every one of these puppies. I just have to remember what Lab puppies are like in order to be able to let them go. :)

Is there something about lab puppies I should know? We adopted Caleb when he was 7 and he was well out of his 'puppy' years by then. Still had a propensity to chew on things though -- he especially liked my son's shoes and Christmas ornaments. He would take them right off of the tree! Brilliant dog, though, he never took the breakable ones! He was nearly 13 when he died so we had him during his 'best' years, I think.

Oh, it's probably more to do with the "puppy" rather than the breed, but my two not only chewed up everything that was chewable (and some things I thought *weren't* chewable! One of them chewed thru my cable wire that was attached to the side of the house. Twice. LOL) but they dug holes ALL over the back yard: in the middle, under the fence, by the house, everywhere. They have ruined my back yard. Mind you, it is NOT a Home and Garden-type backyard, but it's now a death-trap,having to navigate without stepping in holes. Poor ds15 bit nearly through his tongue this past summer mowing the yard and stepped in a hole. I'm hoping ds20 will get a place with a fenced yard so he can take the dogs and I can bring dirt in to repair my yard. But it's gonna have to happen soon. :)

My guess is, you could probably train them to not dig because they are so smart. I just didn't have the time to do so. And they are not nearly as bad now as they were about digging.

We have 2 block head labs, they are huge (over 100lbs of slobber each). We adopted Frodo when he was 2yo (best thing we ever got a yard sale...really), now he is 5yo. Two years ago we brought home Jake purely for Frodo's entertainment. Frodo is not a chewer, nor does he dig holes in the yard, but Jake...lordy I could right a book. Not only does he chew everything in sight, but digs holes to China.

Vet said maybe he was bored...you have got to be kidding, right? We live in the woods, with a lake behind us, all the squirrels and rabbits he wants to chase and 4 humans at his beck and call. But I went right and bought toys as the vet suggested. No luck, he has even chewed our house...I could not make that up, chewed the siding from the bottom.

But we love him just the same, he has calmed down a bit the last few months after I sprayed tabasco on the things he was chewing. Our house is spicy now!
