A little brag here! I'm so proud of my DS 16. He was driving back to school about 6 p.m. in the dark and rain. We live on a rural windy road with no shoulders and a 40 mph speed limit. The car in front of him drove right off the road, going fast, and tipped into the ditch. We have about 4 foot ditches so if you go in the ditch, you are tipped on your side - in about 2 feet of water this time of year - and it's not an easy landing.

DS pulled into a driveway, went back and found a woman who said she was OK but DS said she acted very confused. She asked if she should turn off the engine. DS said yes (he thought this was dumb question). He then noticed what he thought was smoke (it was steam, but how was he supposed to know) and so helped her out of the tipped car to a safe place. By this time someone else had stopped and had called 911.

DS was concerned because he was in someone's driveway so waited until he saw the fire truck and then left.

I got a call from DS explaining all this but he was freaking out because he thought he would get in trouble for leaving the scene of an accident because he was a witness. I told him I would call the sheriff's office and give them his cell in case they had questions.

The incident reminded me we need to talk about how to safely help someone, cars can't see you, etc.

The funny part was DS said it was an "old lady". When he got home I suggested that since she was elderly, maybe she had a medical problem, and how old did he think she was. DS said "about 60". 60??? I am 53!!! I suggested he rethink his definitions!

You should be very proud of him and I think a little surprise cake or something would be great (just an idea). How calm he stayed in the face of this, How mature. My ds's are like that also >I never stop complementing them!

lol I"ts amazing how they have no conception of age, as it relates to OLDER LOL

GREAT JOB1

You have real reason to be proud of your son. He could have just left and not turned back at all. Good for him.

Isn't it funny what they think of age. Here's my little story of the day about age. I worked a birthday party today at the pottery shop. I was talking with the kids about siblings
