Pam,
I have a very good friend that I take a long bike ride with on the weekends.
"Date night" once a week with the queen.
Poker night 2-3 times a month with the guys.
Other than that, not much else!

Pam, I'm like you. I do not have one close girlfriend, and my DH is the one in whom I confide the most. Also my sisters, but they're in NW Chicago and VA, while I'm here in SW MI...when I move to VA at least I'll be physically close to one. I am really looking forward to that. I do have friends from work and from the fitness center with whom I go out occasionally, but I couldn't call them CLOSE friends.

My DH is the socializer, and our couple friends have been his coworkers. Unfortunately, most of them drink pretty much and when our kids reached HS age, we cut way back on getting together with them, trying to set a good example for our kids. Then our friends became DS17's soccer teammates' parents, but we rarely got together with them outside of soccer.

They say that having close friends is good for our health. I think this board is, too. If you want to come to MI sometime, we can meet up; or maybe somewhere inbetween like Michigan City, IN. (I can't stand driving around Chicago--have to do it when I go visit my mom in WI. Having the Ipass helps, but not quite enough.)

Last week I went out with a friend from high school, and tonight a friend from college. Most of my friends though are guys, dh has no problem with this. A friend is in town, we have known each other since we were 4 and went to high school together, we are trying to meet up. Now I don't go out often, but I do go out at times. Dh and I also go out with a group of friends from college. We do dinner or a movie with them, some come to my house weekly for bridge. We played in college with the same guys

Please look into volunteering at your children's jr./sr. high school. Believe it or not, high schools still need help, and my kids actually liked it that I was on campus every so often. It also keeps you in touch with what's going on in high school and builds a relationship with faculty and administration.

Also, check into the school's PTA. I maintained involvement even throughout high school and eventually became president. I met a lot of great women through the PTA.

Actually I have looked into it, but unfortunately this school district isn't big into parenal involvement like our old school.

I was very big on volunteer activities for many years, but always found the school PTAs here to be very "clique-ish". The same people run it every year and chair every committee. It's hard to volunteer for anything because it always goes to these same few women. It's too bad because I'm sure a lot of parents would like to become more involved.
