I sat through about 2/3 of this piece of trash last night and I'm planning to have a serious talk with the daughter who picked it out at the rental store about what she thinks was "good" about this movie (she told her mother she'd seen it before at a friend's house and it was "good").
I'm going to start with having her list the first 100 things that the J-Lo character did wrong (starting with falling for a slick pick-up line that both myself and my English-is-not-my-first-language wife picked up on 30 seconds after it was delivered in the film). My wife and I got to somewhere around 175 last night as we were falling asleep before we stopped counting.
Honest to Pete, this was like some sick fusion of one of those horror films where the protagonists wander off into the dark basement one at a time throughout the movie to be eaten by the monster du jour and anything from "Lifetime" (the "men are pigs" network).
My concern about this film is that it *may* provide a model for other young women to use for dealing with abusive relationships and I want my daughter to see the character's behavior in the cold light of rationality so that she can learn from her (the character's) mistakes rather than simply parrot them back at some later point in her own life.
Anyone else run into sleeper "bad influence" movies out there and want to share? By this I mean movies that get by the censors with a PG-13, but that reflect such bad decisions and poor grasp of reality that they are *worse* than slasher films for the actual effect that they'd likely have on your kids? Maybe the ratings board needs to add "truly stupid, selfish and shortsighted behavior" to "sexual situations" and "graphic violence" warnings.
