Is Facebook the new gateway drug?

Teens who use Facebook and other social media outlets are five times more likely to smoke cigarettes, three times more likely to drink alcohol and twice as likely to smoke pot than teens that don't use social networks,

Well.... I had a statistics professor in college who told our class, "depending on how you ask the questions, manipulate the numbers and force correlations, a good statistician can make statistics say pretty much whatever he wants them to say."

This is like saying social kids are more likely to party. Of course they are. And social kids who feel it's important to have a broad network of "friends" are more likely to use FB. But this does not mean that every kid who uses FB is more likely to smoke or drink. It just means that a social network draws social people.

I think that says way more about the kids who aren't on facebook, than those that are.
