OK! DS has noticable amounts of peach fuzz above his upper lip. Should I tell him he needs to start shaving? Do I give him a bag or razors? Help!

So?

Why are you concerned? It is only hair. What does his father do?
Go and get him an electric razor. Better still, let him & his father pick one out.

Well, I wasn't sure if I should ignore it until it got darker. . . or if it would embarrass him if I pointed it out. Two weeks ago, DD, ever so sweetly, hollered at him that he hadn't reached puberty yet. Then, he retorted, "How do you know?" and she hollered that he didn't have facial hair yet. What a lovely discourse. I tried to kabash it. So, yes, I guess I'll recommend that DH and he go to get a razor. What about boy scout camp? He'll be gone for a couple of weeks at BS camp this month? Do you think I should wait until after he is back from camp to deal with this, or will he look like Rip van Winkle by then? Sorry to be so naive on this. . .

I have 2 boys ages 17 and 20. They are fair-skinned so neither one needed to start shaving until they were 13-14. A friend of mine has a 12yo ds that will likely have to start shaving soon. At first he won't have to shave often - the facial hair doesn't grow that fast. I'd just get him an electric razor (or have your dh pick one up) and have it available to him. Tell him matter-of-factly that when he's ready to start using it that your dh can show him how. I don't really think it matters whether you mention it before or after boy scout camp.

Embarrass him? naaaw... It's just that this is a job for DH.
Most boys are proud to start shaving...whether they need to or not.
Nix the electric shaver idea. This is a bonding activity between your son and his dad.
He needs to teach him how to shave.

Truthfully, my DSs refused to shave unless it was a special occasion until after they graduated high school.

Perfect! You've all put me on the right path. They grow up so fast.
