My dad is 300 miles away - I will definitely call. We saw them Memorial Day weekend and will be back up in a month for vacation.
No real traditions - we go to St. Louis Bread Co. (Panera elsewhere) for Sunday breakfast, that dh enjoys, and hope to see Pirates 3, then I'll make a bbq turkey breast, and we'll go out for frozen custard later. Later next week we will all go see John Mayer and to a Cardinals game, so it's a big treat week for dh! (plus we got a couple of token gifts - a puzzle type thing and an Estes hydrogen powered rocket we figured ds and dh would enjoy together)
We don't have any real traditions for Fathers' Day. This year, we are going to the San Diego County Fair, since it's the last time we'll be able to do this. It should be fun. I like to look at the home and garden exhibits, DH likes to look at the rodeo stuff (if we're there at the right time) and the kids, of course, want to ride the rides. One year, DH, C and W got on this thing called the "Sky Coaster" and o.m.g. it totally scared the heck out of me. The three of them were harnessed in a lying down position, raised about 50 feet in the air (maybe higher) and then released! Kind of like one of those whip line things. There will be no repeats of that!
My own dad is in the same state, but at the opposite end and I usually send a card, and call, but not usually a gift.
Belated thanks Pam. I spent Fathers Day in the BWCA for a week of fantastic fishing in the wilderness with 3 friends. (We sort of combine FD with my birthday in a week.)I'll be 50... Can I still visit the P of T board at that age? LOL.. Unfortunately, I have now exceeded the age that my father passed. Belated happy Fathers Day to you all !
sorry, been off the board for a bit and was just looking at posts I missed when this one caught me eye. My own dad was at a grad party so he was just called. First time ever we didn't spend at least part of it together that I remember, but we see each other mostly every day since we work together. We took my father in law to brunch and that was really about it. For me with my own kids, for some reason they were a little off this year. I honestly was disappointed in the way the day went, and by 4 or 5 in the afternoon I gave in to at least 2 of them who wanted to go out with friends in the neighborhood. At that point I felt like I was in a bad mode and maybe looking for an arguement with someone so I took a 2 hour nap. haha. I'm turning into my grandfather I think. Defintely wasn't my best father's day, but it could have been worse. As far as traditions, as much as I try to start them, things just happen that prevent it from working out.
