In the spirit of Father's Day here are some questions:

Is your own father and/or FIL still alive?

Is your own father and/or FIL still alive? If so - do you celebrate with them or send them a gift or card? ***my FIL is still alive, but we don't really celebrate with him. The boys and their dad and their step-mom get him a card and usually a gift.

Do your kids get their dad a gift/card? ***Yes

Do you have any special traditions for Father's Day or do you have anything special planned for Sunday? ***nope. The boys and their dad are going fishing on Sat and on Sunday ds15 is leaving for a vacation with his best friend and his family. Yes, we are all a little strange, here. LOL

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there!

My Dad is still alive, but a little too far away for celebration in person. I always send a gift and card, and ALWAYS talk to him on the phone on Father's Day (he'd pout if I didn't lol). FIL died when DH was a teenager, so I never knew him.

My kids love to pick out something special for Dad. We don't have any plans for the day yet, but we'll probably go out to dinner somewhere he'll like.

Maybe because his dad died so young, my DH is not wildly enthusiastic about this day. But as my kids get older and more into it every year, it's growing on him.

Sadly, both passed in '96. And, yes, I wish we'd made greater efforts to be with them instead of just sending a card

Absolutely! With 2 now out of the house, it is a joy to see the gifts and cards they select on their own; they truly do a good job with individualizing their choices and not going through the motions. I feel like "wooo-did SOMETHING right!" LOL

We go to dinner together. DS1's GF is joining us this year; last year she opted out because it was too painful not having a dad in her life. I'm glad she has worked through that for selfish reasons; I didnt want that to impact our time with ds1(he tore out last year to get back to her)

DH also golfs with whichever son is not working(whic works out to some nice free time for mom)

Well, since it is actually Father's Day today ...

Both DF and FIL are alive. While I've known for some time that DF is not in the best health, I got the news last week that his kidneys are only functioning at about 40% of capability. Extensive blood was drawn for work-up and we're waiting to see how it comes out. DF and DM actually live in California, but at the opposite end of the state, so we don't see them more than once or twice a year. I don't usually send a gift (my parents are the kind that have everything ... and then some) but I do send a card and call, which I did this morning.

FIL lives in Georgia and we see him even less than we do my parents. DH did call him this afternoon and had a nice chat with him, something he rarely does.

And as for DH? This ended up being his on-call weekend, and he's been called plenty. He spent most of yesterday at the office and/or on the phone, and got multiple middle-of-the-night phone calls and so we're kind of stuck at home. We did go to breakfast this morning, gave him cards and I am now in the processing of completely ruining a London Broil on the grill. (Haven't quite got the hang of this new bbq.)

Had DH not been on stand-by, we would have saddled up horses and gone for a ride today. Pretty hot though, so it might not have been so fun.

Other than that ... nothing much else.
