Hi kel7col4!

I don't really have any ideas, but I will share with you that I have grown incredibly disgusted with the commercialism of the season (more so every year, it seems).

Just wanted to come back and tell you that I totally agree about the video games! I told my ds that I would never buy him another one as long as I lived. (But I told his grandma and now she is getting him one - a football game of sorts). And all of

I am trying something new this year to simplify gift buying. Each child is getting four things: something you want, something you need, something to do and something to read.

I love the limit of four items. When I have bought the four things I am done -- no more shopping! Wrapping is easy too!

Depending on your budget each item can be simple and affordable or fancy and expensive. Something you want could be a DVD (my kids like past season of TV shows -- maybe something you liked at that age so they can laugh at your old fashioned taste), something you need could be a comforter or sheets (I found nice fleece ones -- we live in vermont!), something to do can be a game or puzzle (3-D puzzles are fun for older kids) and something to read can be a book or magazine subscription.

You can get creative too. If your kid doesn't like to read get a game and they can "read" the directions...

Good luck and remember to enjoy your kids no matter how Christmas works out. They'll be grown up so soon...

:)

Another idea I forgot to mention in that first post is if she is getting a car, get her things for it!

How about you just go on an 'adventure' with them as a family getaway, just the 3 of you?

I love that idea, and if you don't mind, that is going to be my policy going forward!

Thanks!
