Gifts for Sweet 16?

What sort of gifts do you give for a girl celebrating her Sweet 16? In a rather big way?

DD is going to a sweet 16 next weekend and when she asked the bday girl what sort of gift she would like, the bday girl listed things like Juicy Couture sweats, a Coach handbag and some other couture items I think I'll let her parents buy for her.

The Sweet 16 party involves a limousine ride to Disneyland, dinner and tickets for the night at the park, overnight at the DLand hotel, breakfast the next day, limo home, etc. DD would like to give the bday girl a nice gift but the gifts bday girl has in mind are not any I'm inclined to buy.

Thoughts?

I'd actually thought of that, Sue. However, time is getting short (limo leaves right from school a week from tomorrow) and you know from previous posts how well DD does the whole adance planning and doing in advance -- NOT!

I will suggest it to her at dinner tonight and see what she thinks. She knows most of the girls going to the party, so it's a possibility. Maybe someone else can do the shopping as I am 'couture challenged'!

Actually, for an old curmudgeon, you've come up with a pretty nifty idea. I could probably spring for a Coach key fob fairly painlessly! LOL.

I'll check with DD tonight on if and what bday girl expects in the way of license, vehicle, etc.

My DD went to many sweet 16 parties. Some were close friends, others were not. If it's not a close friend, we gave 16 crisp single dollars. I thought that sounded a little on the cheap side and was surprised to find out that it was a common gift among the kids.

When it was a close friend we gave something nice like a watch or a Coach wristlet.

HTH,

Karen :)
