I've read a lot about the sexual double standard here, about guys who have sex are studs and girls who do are sluts. But is that really true in this day and age? I mean I know girls who are like that who have boyfriends. But then again I teach at a fairly large high school with 3000 students, so I guess we don't really have those kind of strong cliques.
And do guys who sleep with many girls really have a good reputation? I mean yes I know that guys usually look up to those guys and think its cool, but do girls? I've mostly seen insecure girls date guys like that. Most girls who are secure and are confident in themselves usually don't want to date a guy like that, from my experience.
So how strong is the sexual double standard in this day and age? So do you guys think its only present in maybe small, more traditional towns and not in large cities? Maybe more in the south than in the north?

I have two DD's soon to be 16 and 14. We talk quite openly about sex and drugs, etc. It does seem that kids do start having sex at a much younger age and the guilt factor is not so much there anymore. It seems to me that both sexes are okay with it as long as you are in a relationship of sorts. AS for the double standard of being a female or male slut. It seems that it no longer exists to the extent that it used to. Male of female it seem that the amount of respect they get seems to be the same. At least thats how it seems when I talk to my girls and they are fairly popular with the in crowd. It also seems that being a slut is less of a hard and fast label than it used to be too.
I wonder if our teens today have somewhat the same mentality toward sex as the 60's did to teens. It seems that a lot of kids today are into inner-self as opposed to outer-self of the 80's and early 90's. Some may disagree but I find that the teens that my DD's hang out with are into respect of others a lot more that the teens of just 10 years ago were. Does anyone agree with this statement? I am curious to know. I may ask this question on a new post.
As for the double standard being the same in a small town as opposed to a big town, I don't know. I am and always have been from a big city so I can't answer that one.
I have two boys and a girl, and I have to tell you that the double standard is alive and well.
