Hi Julie,

I "vote" on the side of letting him graduate early. If he has all his credits and has a high GPA, then what is there to lose? Especially since he wants to graduate early and seems to have some concrete goals for the future.

Just my 2 cents!

Amelia (who absolutely hated high school and took JUST enough to graduate!)

ITA - if the environment isn't something he's enjoying, and he's got plans that will further his future goals, let him go for it.

He has a plan, more than a lot of kids these days...I graduated early, I was barely 17, but because I hated school and my home life and wanted out. His reasons are all positive ones, so I don't think it should be a problem..talk with one who knows, his guidance counselor, to see if it could have any adverse effects on his continuing education. Sounds like he's doing great. My son is also, and he had to go an extra semester to get those Economics and Government credits...not all kids fit the mold. In fact, as I'm typing, my son is out trying to hook up with the 20 hours of community service his Govt. teacher requires to pass. Is it the same in your school?

I just don't know how schools would look at that choice

I, personally, am all for it. DS1's GF graduated a year early in this manner and I was like-duh, didnt know it could be done! Would have made sense for DS1 who disliked HS. Offered it to DS2 who turned it down-of course as much as he cut his senior year, maybe he was following my advice after all ;)

I just wonder if the college powers that be would rather see more AP classes? Don't know but if you have access to ask those type questions to a college admissions person, awesome.

I was going to suggest talking to the counselors also. Especially the college ones. I don't think there should be any problem with graduating early, but would check into it just in case.I sould think the college would think favorable on this no? hey we have a board for parents of kids in college where is it ! ? Can you help me out

Yes, in most situations they would rather see this, but Max is going to go to school for a specialized degree in Musical Theater and get a BFA which most of the best schools that he will be looking at, they Only take liberal arts class outside of their major each semester, starting right away in their Freshman year.

I vote with the rest. I can't imagine that a college would look at a 4.4 gpa graduating in 3/5 yrs and have a problem with it.
