Hi all!
I am new to this board! My name is Tonya and I have DD17 (Sr in HS), DD10 (4th grade) & DS8 (2nd grade).

I am so happy to have found this board because I will need lots of advice this year!
My DD17, who is a senior this year(!), is also a PSEO student . This means she goes to college rather than high school.

We have started the looking in colleges for next year and all that othe fun stuff. Now that school has started I have been really wanting to get a jump start on planning her graduation party/open house. (I am a freak about planning by nature) My first project (well, really, my husbands project) is to put together a dvd slide show of pictures of her through the years. I wanted to set this DVD to music and I need some help choosing some background music. So far, after searching the web, I have come up with a list to start from. Here is what I have so far:

Baby Baby ~ Amy Grant
All I really Need ~ Raffi
Unwritten ~ N. Bedingfield
My Wish ~ Rascal Flatts
I Hope You Dance ~ LeAnne Womack
Forever Young ~ Rod Stewart
Good Riddance ~ Greenday
On My Way ~ Phil Collins
Grasduation ~ Vitamin C
I am your Child ~ Barry Manilow
Isn't She Lovely ~ Stevie Wonder
What A Wonderful World ~ Louis Armstrong
We Are Family ~ Sister sledge
Sunrise, Sunset ~ Fiddler on the roof
A Whole New World ~ Aladdin Soundtrack
Times of Your Life ~ Paul Anka
Closing time ~ Semison
In My Daughters Eyes ~ Martina McBride
My Girl~ The temptations
Girls Just wanna Have Fun ~ Cyndy Lauper
Hit the Road Jack ~ Ray Charles
Home ~ Bon Jovi
There You'll Be ~ Faith Hill
You Are the Sunshine of My Life~
Blessed~ Elton John
Perfect Fan ~ Backstreet Boys
With Arms Wide Open~ Creed
Time In a Bottle ~ Jow Croce
Walking On Sunshine ~ Katrina & the Waves

Ok!!!
What do you all think???
Anything that makes you go EWWWWWWW?

Please, can you think of anything I am missing?

I am looking for "nostaglic, remember all the good times" type songs.

Well thats it for now....
You can probably look forward to many, many , more posts from me yet to come!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Tonya and welcome to the board. Good to have you. Guess I don't need to tell you to jump right in, you already have.
You sound like me. I am thinking of working with my son on just a dvd like the one you are talking about. I like your choice of songs, there are a couple I don't recognize, but if I heard them I might. Great list though.
Here is another idea which I don't know if it is possible or not, do you have any home videos of her when she was little? If there are any clips that have her talking or in a play etc. you could use that as part of the sound tract. Or maybe if you have a bunch of different birthday pictures you could use the sound from a birthday video of everyone singing happy birthday to her. If you can't take it off the video, maybe you could record it for the dvd. If you can record it on your digital camera you could also put in a sound clip of you telling her how proud you are of her, something like that. I know my camera can do sound, but if yours doesn't I don't know how else you would do it.
Hope you don't mind if I borrow your list of songs LOL! Why reinvent the wheel.
Oh another thing, were there any kids songs that she loved when she was young, you know, the Barney song or what ever, or even something you used to sing to her? You could use those too.
Have fun and hope to see you around!

What about 'Innocent Eyes' by my favourite singer, Delta Goodrem (http://www.deltagoodrem.com)? For your perusal, the lyrics. I think you should be able to buy it on iTunes. It's a piano ballad that gets more upbeat at the chorus. She's a very safe bet, no profanity, just beautiful melodies and a gorgeous voice.

ETA: Here's the video on YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=jF_xkjk1HDI

Do you remember when you were seven?
And the only thing that you wanted to do
Was show your mum that you could play the piano?
Ten years have passed (ETA: you mentioned she's seventeen?)
And the one thing that will last
Is that same old song that we played along and made my mama cry

I miss those days and I miss those ways
When I got lost in fantasies
In a cartoon land of mysteries
In a place you won't grow old
In a place you won't feel cold
And I’ll sing

Da da da da da da da da da da
Seems I'm lost in my reflection
Da da da da da da da da da da
Find a star for my direction
Da da da da da da da da da da
For the little girl inside who won't just hide
Don't let me see mistakes and lies
Let me keep my faith and innocent eyes

Do you remember when you were fifteen?
And the kids at school called you a fool 'cause you took the chance to dream
In the time that's passed and the one thing that will last
Is that same old song we played along that made my daddy cry

I miss those days and I miss those ways
When I got lost in fantasies
In a cartoon land of mysteries
In a place you won't grow old, in a place you won't feel cold

Da da da da da da da da da da
Seems I'm lost in my reflection
Da da da da da da da da da da
Find a star for my direction
Da da da da da da da da da da
For the little girl inside who won't just hide
Don’t let me see mistakes and lies
Let me keep my faith and innocent eyes

Under my feelings, under my skin
Under the thoughts from within
Learning the subtext of the mind
See creation, how we’re defined

My innocent eyes...

I miss those days and I miss those ways
When I got lost in fantasies
In a cartoon land of mysteries
In a place you won't grow old, in a place you won't feel cold

Da da da da da da da da da da
Seems I'm lost in my reflection
Da da da da da da da da da da
Find a star for my direction
Da da da da da da da da da da
For the little girl inside who won't just hide
Don't let me see mistakes and lies
Let me keep my faith and innocent eyes

Da da da da da da da da da da
Faith and innocent eyes

Faith and innocent eyes
For the little girl inside who won't just hide
Don't let me see mistakes and lies
Let me keep my faith and innocent eyes

EDIT: If Delta's not to your taste, I think Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten' is a good choice too.
