My DD wanted to make memory boards for 4 good friends (2 boys/2 girls) who are graduating. (They would be French memo boards in school colors) She wanted to put personal things about high school, pics, decorations,

Hi!

I am thinking it might be a risky gift for a guy.

My son is graduating this year and said that the last thing he would want hanging in his dorm room is high school stuff.

I have to agree with the others, as a mom of sons, I don't think it would be a good gift for the guys... they tend to not be into that kind of thing at all - I know mine would have stuck such a thing in a closet and never looked at it again.

For the guys - posters for their future dorm (bands, sports) would be fun, or even silly stuff (at least ds18 wanted it!) like those old glow in the dark stars and planets to put on dorm ceilings. If she were going to do something more personal for the guys, maybe just give them a memory stick with pictures on it of 'the gang' and times they had fun together that they could view on their laptop would be fun, but nothing that they'd really display - they don't seem to do much of that. FWIW.

I'll chime in with everyone else as the mom of boys - I don't think it would have the same meaning to an 18yo boy. When my boys went off to college they did take a couple UFC/band posters but they wouldn't have hung up a big poster with pictures of their high school days. They didn't even take their year books - I'm probably the one that's looked through them more in the last years than they have! Teenage boys just aren't that sentimental about memories.

OK, thanks everyone! Food sounds good :smileyhappy:. Anyone with a son who graduated recently that got a cool gift from a friend?

As I'd said, posters of sports or bands they like, stuff that glows, even things like one of the cheap lava lamps, sea monkeys (ds's dorm permits fish), one of those magnetic sculptures that you can play with for their desk (not that there's much desk space - something like this is what I'm trying to convey: http://www.starmajic.com/Magnetic-Sculpture-Sea.html). HTH!
