Guitar lesson ?

Does anyone's child take lessons for both the six string (acoustic or electric) and Bass at the same time?

Right now Connor plays and takes lessons for the electric guitar and he has expressed an interst in possibly learning to play bass as well. I have no problem with him learning more than on instrument, provided he takes the time to practice, but I am concerned with him learning both electric and Bass at the same time. I personally don't know of anyone who plays both Bass and six string (acoustic or electric)so I have no idea how difficult it would be for him to learn both at the same time.

We wouldn't be able to start him until after Christmas (The Bass would probably be his Christmas Gift).

Anyone?

My DD15 plays both guitar and bass - learned guitar first. I just read your question to her, and she says - bass is not hard to learn the basics, and if he knows guitar already it won't be hard ("the first four strings are the same" I have no idea what that means, but Connor probably will). FWIW, we had a harder time finding a bass teacher than we would have with a guitar teacher - we saw posting for guitar teachers everywhere, but it took longer to find someone who really understood bass.

Thank you so much for that bit of information. I know that the center that my son goes to does have bass instruction so finding a teacher won't be a problem but getting into an open slot may be, so I'll try and get him on the wait list for January. We won't be starting bass lessons until after Christmas so we have time to find someone if the music center he goes to has no openings.
