Isn't it getting close to the time your DD will head off to culinary school? How's it going? Is she excited? Nervous? Ready to start this next chapter in her life? How about YOU -- LOL! How are you doing?

Hi Julie~
Yes, we drive dd up on Sunday, her and all her stuff. My God, who knew she even had all this stuff?? Haha - she actually spoke some words I thought I'd never pass her lips: "I'm so sick of shopping, mom" - isn't that hysterical? This from the girl whose favorite 'activity' included a trip to the mall and lunch at Ruby Tuesdays (and spending as much of my money as possible-lol).
She's excited and nervous; she's concerned about how much stuff she is bringing...will she have everything she needs, is she bringing too much crap, etc. She's a little concerned about who her roommates are. The school is rolling admissions, so she may be rooming with seniors and freshmans and sophomores - there is an advantage to that such as having an older roomie will be helpful in learning "the ropes". The downside is that it's also nice to learn the ropes with another freshman. We still haven't gotten the information which tells us her actual dorm room or the phone number or names of her roomies, so she's been a little antsy about that. But she said she mostly can't wait to get into the kitchens and actually begin her classes. She said she's glad she waited for a late fall enrollment because it gave her time to chill a little before summer's end, and now she's raring to go! So, those are good things.
How am I? I am happy for her, filled with joy and expectation...excited for her new adventure and future. I truly am. But I'm also really really sad to see her go. This is my buddy. From the moment she was born, we was a momma's girl. We have so much in common, mostly the whole cooking and shopping thing, but we get each other and she makes me laugh. She's always so quiet and she has a very dry sense of humor so when she lets a funny slip out, you really have to catch it to 'get it'. Anyway, I will miss that. I will miss her help in the kitchen and her crazy made up desserts, tantalizing treats. And I will miss, most of all, our evening talks. I know she will call me, but she's gotten so independent and mature, that I really think those initial calls will fade fast. The other day I told her we'd come up for her b'day on November 3rd, take her out to dinner or something and guess what she said? She said, "Why? It's not its a milestone b'day? I'm only turning 19..." Well, after I picked up my jaw from the floor....lol. Then she started laughing. It's after the new year that we won't see her for a long time actually. They don't have the huge break during the holidays that most kids get. Her's is just Christmas to New Years and then she goes back on Jan 2nd!
OTOH...I AM looking forward to doing some redecorating! haha - actually dd16 is moving into dd18's room and then I'm redoing dd16's room for when dd18 comes home from school. DD16 will also miss her, even though most of the time, they act like they hate each other.
Thanks for asking Julie - we're all good. I know it's just another stepping stone in all of our lives and it's a wonderful transition.
Sounds really wonderful ... like you're all ready for this to happen, and it sounds like it's absolutely gonna happen!
I wish her well and all the best, and to you too. Keep us updated on how she's doing; sounds like it's going to be great.
Sounds wonderful - what an exciting time for your DD!!
IKWYM about being close and missing her - I had that relationship with my mom (still do) and with my DD. I'll be happy for her when she goes to college, but I'll sure miss chatting with her!
My DD has recently become addicted to food network - watching shows, going online for recipes, and then cooking for us. Right now her favorite to cook from is Paula Dean (NOT low cal lolol). Who knows, I may be asking you about culinary schools in a year or so.
Please keep us posted on your DD's great move!
Sue
