In a moment of stupidity I have found myself agreeing to cook Thanksgiving meal for 14 people. DD will be "helping" me. The queen told me we're either going out to eat or your on your own... Oh swell....
I am NOT going to a restaurant for Thanksgiving. So my pig headed side naturally got me in trouble. I thought, what better place to plead for help than the POT board.
I need to order a fresh turkey. How many lbs.?
How long do I cook it at what temp.?
Any other tips and tricks?
I am not going to give the queen the satisfaction of asking her these questions.. :-)
PS. I make really good homemade pies. Everything else is what microwaves were made for....
Thanks!
D

Well, the standard "dietician reply" is that one serving of meat is 4 oz, or about the size of a deck of cards.
I take that back Daddioe.... Look what I found when I googled "roast turkey" - should answer all your questions:

deep fried is the only way to go. not only does it taste better than anything you will pull out of the oven, but it cooks up in less than an hour.
it's super easy...home depot, lowes and the like sell what you need.
Excuse me while I am ROFL!!!!
Anyway - the roasting bags are great - keep everything moist!
Other than turkey, what are you thinking of for sides? That's where I think Thanksgiving can get fun!
Great info Rose!
I wasn't this successful in google.
Oh.. And I'm not GOOD at all..lol
With this information I'm gonna use herbs and spices and garnishes and make the queen turn absolutely green.
Insert maniacal evil laughter here...)
Assuming of course that it will actually be edible..

I'm thinking of mashed spuds. (Can't get in too much trouble there)
And an easy recipe where you bake yams, apples, cinnamon, walnuts, and then you brown marshmallows on the top at the last minute.
And the usual stuffing.
A cranberry jello thing.
hot rolls
And my pies (apple and pumpkin)
Anything I should add or change???
You forgot the green bean casserole! Well, there should be something green on the menu.
I'm glad someone was able to direct you on the proper turkey roasting techniques, because our Thanksgiving tradition means going to Disneyland for a long weekend and eating turkey dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. Don't laugh! Believe it or not, Goofy's Kitchen actually puts out an excellent Thanksgiving spread. A couple years ago, they introduced a roasted vegetable medley of all sorts of root veggies, and it is positively divine!
You are a fine man, daddio. The queen will no doubt, be impressed.
It's not a holiday here without green bean casserole - the natives get downright vicious if I decide to leave it off the menu!
Rose
Is this what you are referring to?

OMG.. So that's the purpose of cream of mushroom soup...
All this time I thought it was a bad joke from Campbells food scientists.
That's pretty rough just to get some greenery on the plate.
Goofy's kitchen sounds quite appealing.
