I have a 15 yo dd that is really screwing up. Skipped school on Wednesday (I just found out today) Tardy to 2 classes on Thursday. Failing Math First week into the new marking period and she has 3 0's in Spanish!!!
Grounding doesn't work, she just says she will leave (which she does) so what are we supposed to do with her?

Thanks for any advice

Find out why she hates school. Ask her what would need to change to get her to go to school?

Is this the first time that she is acting up? If its sudden (like in the last week) I would say that something drastic has happened to her very recently. If it is ongoing, but escalating, I would say that there is a problem that has not been addressed but needs to be now! It sounds like its been going on for some time though. You need to find out what the problem is and the only way to find that out is by asking. Ask her and tell her that you will not judge her. Tell her that you just want what is best for her and you will help her in any way that you can and mean it! Tell her that you will just listen and then that you will work it out together. It could be drugs, it could be a guy, it could be a lot of things. Maybe nothing maybe something. The important thing is that you need her to feel comfortable in telling you. And yes, your right, grounding doesn't work. Talking is best at this age.
