Help-Computer Spill!

Since some of you know how to handle those soaked cell phone situations, maybe someone can give me some advice on this. I spilled coffee all over the keyboard of my new laptop this morning! It was working just fine for a while afterwards, but now several of the keys (including the spacebar) no longer work. I have shut it down. Is it going to be a total loss?? Any ideas at all?

It needs to be taken apart and cleaned professionally. The keyboard is not very sophisticated; just a rubberized layer over the circuit board to give it some "spring". Shouldn't be very expensive.

Thanks, Daddioe. I hope you're right. I ended up calling Dell & they said I probably just need a new keyboard. They told me how to pry off the existing keyboard & try cleaning it, but if that doesn't work a new one shouldn't be very expensive. I have to wait till my DH comes home, though, because I can't seem to pry off one of the screws that's holding it on. Good thing I didn't stick the whole thing in a bag of rice!

LOL... The things you can do with rice.... :-)

That's interesting what Dell told you.

A little off topic but...

My DH took apart my old laptop to try to fix the power plug-in---had to have a professional solder some wires, but he put it back together.

That's funny!

Everyone keeps telling me I should get a laptop, but I'm afraid of ruining it with a spill. At least the keyboards for desktops are cheap.
